i didn't quite know where to put this as it relates to current events and sports, but, i also wanted to make sure the canadians on the boards would see this who don't go into either of those sections.
For those of you who might haved missed, it, a few days ago during game 5 of the Edmonton-San Jose Game 5 playoff in San Jose, during the Canadian national anthem, a sizeable section of the crowd starting booing.
Last night was game 6 and it was at Edmonton. The American national anthem was the first to be played, and i gotta say, i've never seen anything like it. Instead of taking the easy route and booing, the canadian folks did a unbelievable classy move: they cheered their heads off. I couldn't believe it. I don't even think i've ever heard AMERICANS cheer that loud to their own national anthem. After that was played, the canadian national anthem was played and the crowded sung it in unison and with unbelievable pride.
So my hats off to you canadians. You showed unbelievable class last night and I for one and proud to have you as our northern neighbor.
As for you classless Americans out there, thanks for the
embarrassment. You really showed the world what you're made of.
Oh, and the kicker? Edmonton comes back to take 4 straight from San Jose to win the series....priceless.....

I always liked the Canadian anthem. Have to agree it was totally classless to boo. I hope you don't judge all Americans by a few idiots, especially our hockey fans.

No, no, i'm sure most of the people at the San Jose game were Silicon Valley, snooty, 'i'm better than you' type people.

Nah, I think the typical Canadian thinks most American Hockey fans are pretty clueless already
It's not like it's the first time it has happened though. Either way.
Stupid Oilers. GO DUCKS!

Maybe they just really liked the person singing the National Anthem. Who was it? Ann Murray...Celine Dionne...Marcel Dionne?

FWIW, there have been incidents of Canadian (well, Quebeckers anyhow) booing the US national anthem. It happened a couple of years back in Montreal. We're not completely innocent either.

Man, I don't feel like opening this can of worms so i'm going to keep my mouth shut

The drunken Canadians probably didn't recognize three Mexican transvestites singing the Spanish version of the National Anthem. They probably thought they were seeing three Tim Hortons waitresses singing the Macarena.

Just from personal experience in my travels, some Americans have a tendency to be a bit closed minded, and I would assume that some of those jerkoffs that booed the other night are probably of that type. I think it's pretty ridiculous that they booed, and disrespected an entire country like that. I'd love to see what happened if they did it in Canada.
Spoken like a true bitter and twisted Calgarian! :p

Well they are from Edmonton, can't expect to much from them.

wait till you see an english 'soccer' (i HATE that word) game, you'll never feel such an atmosphere again
Oh I know. My roommate is a huge EPL 'football' fan so usually watch a game or two on Saturday mornings. The crowds just amaze me. I wish we had crowds like that over here for sporting events. It would be alot more fun.

I saw a piece last night on CBC news about the Oilers and they had some film footage from a Calgary bar where the patrons were all cheering on the Oilers and I went WTF?? Now THAT'S some weird shit bandwagon.

I'm not sure i'd call that a bandwagon. More like Canadian Pride. I'm a Bruins fan but I want to see the Oilers because they're from Canada.
Now if they're going out and buying Oilers jerseys and saying they're Oilers fans when a few months they wouldn't care less about the team, that bandwagonism...
