Last week, Johnka joined me for a day on the slopes at Vail, CO. All I can say is that the boy is FAST! I don't think he bothers to turn.
Here are some vidcaps (yes, we have some cool video) from the day. John's doing some jumps, I'm cruising along. And then a few snaps from lunch. It was a great day.
Thanks for posting those K, your making me jealous here!
Nice method & railslide to fakie John!
Another perfect bluebird CO day - man that's the life.
Kaiser, haven't you gotten into carving skis? I hear that's the shit, especially in snow like you get out West.

Oh cool, they looked a little narrower in the pic.
How did they work?
My bro & sister, both avid CO skiers swear by them.

The technology's been there for about 5 years. I used to love my Salomon SuperForce 9s (the older technology before shape), but these are easier to turn. When I was out there in December (last time I was supposed to meet up with John, but he broke his ankle jumping his board), I took some Salomon XScreams out - not as much sidecut as the Street Racers. I couldn't crank out the short radius turns as well on those as I could on these (or on the predecessors to these, the Crossmax).
Bottom line: It took me a day to get used to the speed of these skis, but I like em. They are very sidecut and really carve up short radius turns while holding their own on high speed GS turns.
I still haven't been to Vail despite the fact that it's on my pass. It's hard enough for me and my friends to get our lazy asses up at 6:30 to make it to Keystone or Breck in time for the lifts to open, much less the extra hour or so earlier we would have to get up to get to Vail. I've missed going about 3 days in the past couple of weeks because of school or having the offer presented to me at around midnight when I knew if I got up at 6 the next morning I would probably be hungover as hell.
John, get the fuck off the cell phone and get out on the slopes.
Uh, we had to take a break some time during our 8-hour bonanaza.
That's actually a funny picture, since it looks like I'm right at home chattin' with my homies , although I'm one of the most anti-cell phone people you'll meet.
Mahler, in defense of JW, I recall him only being on the phone only twice (both to his female sig other trying to determine if she was coming out to snowboard or not). I snapped the pic during a rare lull after our lunch feeding.
I vote that the next summit be at Summit! The JPF Snow Summit Excursion 2007. The JPF Ski & Board Extravaganza 2008. The JPF High Altitude Training Camp 2009. The Bill Hartman 'ART will not work to heal broken bones' Seminar 2010.
One more funny thing - we're in a lift line at the middle of the mountain and temps were climbing nicely. The two of us are wrapped us as you see us - full winter gear - and there are chiquitas standing in line in their tank tops. LOL.
Thanks, Kuri. We'll definitely have to plan a trip together some time
Absolutely, next time I'm in CO.
And if you come through CA I'll take you surfing - it really feels like riding powder. You'll love it.

Thanks for the compliments on the beard, Ruma and Deserve. It was an experiment, at the request of my girlfriend. She liked it for a while, but she started thinking I looked like a hobo some time after this photo was taken. I was happy to trim it down anyway, because it was starting to get itchy.
