I have some pretty serious poison ivy, as the title suggests. So does my oldest son and my daughter. Mine is thankfully the worst. I have it all over my hands, on my nose and face, all over my legs... Pretty much everything my hands touch (uh, yes, there too).
I have taken an anti histamine and I am covered in calamine lotion, which doesn't seem to be helping me much. Is there some prescription strength stuff that I could take or some more powerful lotion?
Aveeno seemed to be the best stuff to use. Its way more expensive but hey when you are that itchy who cares. You make be able to get something from your doctor but I'd try Aveeno first, they have the bath and lotion that kicks arse .
Try manganese sulphate for itching, as it beats calamine.
I am not susceptible (yet!). Neither was my wife, and hubris made her careless, with punishment from the great god Rhus following. Even her bones itched! See a doctor and get a cortisone shot or a script for oral Prednisone, but don't stay on it. Steroidal (cortisone) creams and ointments will give symptomatic relief, In NY we can by hydrocortisone withouta prescription. Stronger versions with prescription are things like Ultravate, Tenovate, Elocon, and Psorcon. I used to use some of the latter ointments for an immune-deficiency disorder (no, not HIV!) with no problem. Prednisone is good for brief use, but if you prolong use you'll get moonfaced.

Hopefully, you won't have the worst symptoms! Good luck.
Page two has most of the tips on what to do once you've got it.
Page one has an interesting part, where it says that they chemical can survive for years on clothes and other objects. Make sure any contaminated clothing or gear is cleaned so you don't get it again next time you camp!
Go get a predizone (sp?) perscription. I have a serious allergy to it and I usually swell up and break out really really bad. As soon as I see it on me I just go to the doc and get a perscription and it fixes me up. It takes the inflamation way down.
Poison Ivy sucks man I hope it clears up soon!

I'm on predisone right now for allergies and stuff. From camping experience, actually just got back today, just keep washing your hands and face and arms, etc constantly and clean the gears off good. Leaflets three, let it be; berries white, poisonous sight.

When I've had it (I'll get it several times/year thanks to my yard) I will shower in hot water (not boiling hot, just good and hot) and wash the affected areas with dish washing liquid. This supposedly lifts the oils off of the skin.
During this time I'd avoid sugary/sweet types of foods.
I use a product called "Tecnu" that is designed to remove the oils and keep it from spreading. I use it in the summer any time I feel I may have been exposed. It's a liquid that you apply all over and then take a warm shower. It seems to keep it under control.
I really hope you get some relief, my friend. And I hope the kids are okay.

JP: The oils can stay in your clothing, bedding, and other stuff you come into contact with, and keep re-irritating you. Wash stuff well/multiple times if it has come into contact with unprotected skin. I can't remember what is recommended for washing, but I heard something once about what to use.
ask your doctor about fexofenadine hydrochloride. Thats the medicines name rather than the brand basicaly its anti histamine in the form the body can process it. Most over the counter anti histamines take longer to work whereas this tends to get direct to solving the problem.
