I subbed teaching a spin class at a local country club this morning. At the beginning of class, I pulled out a bicycle helmet from my bag and announced "As per the memo, everyone needs to put their helmets on before class starts."
Was met with befuddled looks.
"Helmets?" someone said.
"Didn't you get the note?" I asked. "The Spinning program has put out a note to all certified Spinning facilities that they must require Spin class participants to wear helmets during class for safety."
Now the looks were amazed.
"If this club doesn't comply, it'll have it's official Spinning credentials pulled," I continued with a shrug.
The class members got on their bikes and started pedaling. "I'm not wearing any helmet," one said. "That's crazy!" said another.
I put mine on and said, "I'm not supposed to let you take the class if you don't have a helmet." I begain to climb on my Spin bike, appropriately clad in a bike helmet.
Finally, I couldn't hold back a small smile and someone caught on that it was April 1st. Everyone laughed.
I've been waiting a long while to be able to teach on a April 1st.
The end.
