I've been considering an update to my wardrobe soon.
My question: how do you guys who've been lifting for a long time deal with the changes in your body without having to spend a lot on clothes? My Mom's an expert sewer, and she said a typical suit gives you about an inch or so leeway for alterations. So what happens when you complete some hypertrophy/bulking programs and your clothes don't fit any more, or if you finish cutting and find your proportions have changed (pants are loose and the jacket's tight)?
I'll admit it, I'm cheap. I can't see spending hundreds on suits and only wearing stuff for six months or a year and then having to replace it. Or am I overestimating the changes one is likely to see? Any advice?

one piece of advice: know your size, and then hit www.ebay.com for great prices on suits. since you should be tailoring your suits anyway, the exact sizing of the suit shouldnt be too big of a deal (as long as your in the right ballpark, e.g. 42R)
if you're seriously planning on gaining\loosing a bunch of weight probibly buying a bunch of suits wouldn't be the best idea.
you could buy a jacket or two that's *just* a little big, get it tailored "telling them to leave the extra (that'd buy another inch) or just leave it slightly overlarge. Then buy a few pair of slacks with different size waist sizes that could go with both jackets.
I wear suits to work so their life expectancy rarely out lasts a change in my body shape - my Tux has been altered twice.
Other clothes...well I usually find something I like and wear it to death before I buy something else anyway, so again, bodycomp doesn't affect me too much.

I've got a problem with pants, in general. Butt's too big, waist too small, legs are fine, depending on the styles.
I have to buy 32x34 pants, to get the length to work out. If I go with the 30 waist, the legs are always too snug or for some reason, the length looks short. It's like my ass takes up the slack in the fabric, making them too short again. Plus, 30x34s are rare.
In suits, nothing fits well. To get pants that can fit, the jacket seems huge, like a maternity coat.
In the 80s and early 90s, they had athletic cut suits. I couldn't wear them then, as I was a fatty, but it would be nice to have them available now.
One possible solution, is buy suit separates. Not as nice as nice suits, but JcPenney's Stafford seperates got good reviews in a few Men's mags (GQ, I believe) a couple of years back. They've got a few price ranges, too. Last time, I bought one jacket and three pairs of pants in different sizes. Good thing, too. The first pair no longer fits my thighs.
It seems like since I began working out and eating right, my body seems to be in constant flux. I need a different pants size every 6 months or so. Then taking a break while my shoulder heals changed everything again. It's driving me nuts.
LD, I like that one with the suit separates. JCPenney has them on sale a lot these days. I'm sure it would blow the clerk's mind if I bought two identical jackets and pants in different sizes. (GQ? You going metro? )
