I am eating whatever at sight. My parents are visiting and there is always some mouth-watering dish awaiting when I go back from work and I have been a complete bad girl. I must have gained way more pounds in the last 2 weeks, than I am expected to. I am even scared to check my weight. I am afraid my GYN will scold me in my next pre-natal visit. Worst is I justify my eating crap by blaming it on the hormones. I am so ruined
First off keep in mind its in the past so you can't do anything to change that, so forget it. Now that, that is out of the way just start over like nothing happened tommorow. Go back into your normal healthy eating habits. Also get those tempting foods out of your viewing area. Maybe keep them in a cubard where you won't be seeing them. OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND. Thats as true as it gets.
Also if you find yourself eating bad after a healthy meal, brush your teeth. It may not help the taste buds but you won't want to eat those sweets.
Ruma don't worry about the past ok.. Just do the thing I do look at the food and say ' NO ' but be firm or it will say yes back at you!! damn food!! ok so tell your family not more mouth watering bad food only good stuff for you and the baby, tell them its good for its development, and that the sweets make it hyper and you can't sleep.. It might work!! or you'll sound nuts like me !! seroiusly tell your family its not good for you and you increase your risk of gestational diabetes which is not good, that may help to get the naughty foods out of the house. be firm about it though! tell them you want to be healthy and you need them to be supportive of that. and forget yesterday move forward and think of tomorrow
Well, I'll be the contrarian here. What you are feeling is not only normal, but good for you.
Having had 2 kids and friends who are ob/gynies, here's what I've heard (FWIW): many women start craving and eating food during pregnancy that they normally despise. The theory is that they are eating foods they normally wouldn't (in your case, less healthier fare) to balance out their nutrient demands with variety. So someone who doesn't crave a big slab of meat (like my wife) will crave it during pregnancy (perhaps to get micronutrients like selenium, that would otherwise be lacking from her less meat diet - who knows).
I've heard the cravings are something that is biologically driven during pregnancy - your body's way of telling you what it wants. Unless you are getting obscenely obese, I wouldn't worry about it. My ob/gynie friends say it is good to actually give in to those cravings - a way to listen to your body (unless, of course, the cravings are for something harmful to the fetus like cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs).
Eating more is nature's way of insuring you have the fat stores required to have a healthy pregnancy. It's a whole different mentality than the one espoused on our board by non-pregnant members, but India isn't the second most populous nation on earth because it doesn't know how to have babies (OK, that was obviously tongue in cheek, but your relatives have a millenia of successful pregnancy diet habits that they are drawing from. Nahi?)
If you feel like you are eating too much, just try to remember that overly low bodyfat is not very conducive to a healthy pregnancy.
I'm with kaiser on this one. Your body is looking for somethjing that is not getting from your normal diet. So unless your are talking about hogh sodium or MSg cravings (just to add a few naughties to Kaiser's list) go nuts. If you breast feed the little one will help your burn off that extra weight in a hurry.
Relax and enjoy the food.

I have to agree with Kaiser on this one as well. He said what I was going to say, but stated it better than I could have I ate what I wanted when I was pregnant...which included a lot of healthy foods, but also included some not so healthy foods...every day. Don't get too caught up on not gaining too much weight. It's not good to go overboard in either direction, but I tend to worry when women try to restrict their intake. The weight will come off after you have the baby.
yep tis mother natures way of telling us that too low body fat aint all that. dont panic Ruma you have the drive and determination to get rid of it and ya never know you maybe carrying a 14lb baby!!!!!!!!!! Just thought that last bit would cheer you up

I kinda agree with Kaiser but also know, after having been pregnant so much, that sometimes the cravings get out of hand. Just pace yourself and don't stress over it until the gains get out of hand for a few weeks.
With Julian (my 1st) I craved brussel sprouts and green beans. I ate them every day. I would barely microwave them and spritz lemon on them. YMMMMM!!! With Sophie, I ate horrible. Always wanted sweets. When Ethan came, I did both. The weird thing is that Julian eats so healthy. He will eat almost all veggies, controls his sweets very well and won't eat cereal, chips or many simple carbs. Sophie won't eat any veggies. Ethan is in the middle. It is like what I ate dictated how my kids eat now. I have no proof though.
You think the eating is big now, when I was nursing and got those 500 extra calories a day, I was a bottomless pit.

Maybe it's the other way around? Maybe even at that early stage in development Julian liked veggies and so you craved them, and Sophie, she liked sweets.
Just a thought, but I am a boy, what do I know?

Thankyou for all your support in my big eating journey I got worried because with my first pregnancy I ate clean.. all the desired things a pregnant woman should have and gained just the right amount of weight. That is not happening now and I see a lot of my friends who could not shed the pregnancy weight gain . I am visiting my doctor today. If he doesn't scold me then I think I am still OK .
Gobbla, my parents leave next week but in-laws will visit me right after they leave and my mum-in-law makes fantastic Biryani..
