Back in Feb. I learned that my AT&T office was closing and I will be losing my job as of 4/21/06.
Well just an update.
I was just offered a new job. Nows it's probally not going to provide any where the income of my current job but I'm real excited because I will be arround something I love to do.
Promise not to laugh but at 46 yrs old I am going to be a caddie at the Mystic Rock golf course which is part of the Nemacolin Resort. I'm an advid golfer and since I will be getting a years severence pay and unemployment I thought this as a part job for the summer would work out great. The company that is hiring me also manages the caddie programs at some well known resorts such as Pinehurst, Doral, Whistling Straits and numerous others, so once certified they advised that I would be able to caddie at any of their managed resorts.. So who knows what will happen..
Congrats on landing on your feet, steeler, and doing something you love ... whether it be short- or long-term. Have a blast!

a place I used to bartend at years ago was down the street from a RTJ course. the caddies came in all the time, and let me tell you , some of those guys banked - big time - on tips. They were a great bunch, one even caddied for then pres. Clinton, and got his picture on the fron page of the Wash. Post standing at clinton's side, going over a put. Priceless!
Hope it all works out for you too man. Who knows, maybe Cowher and some of the staff plays there.
I don't know. I was a Country Club snot-nosed kid growing up and not for nothing, but I know for a fact that I'd NEVER want to work at a CC knowing how much sh!t my friends and I put the staff through. YIKES! I do recall my folks tipping everyone VERY well because they too knew how much trouble we kids got into.......

Um, one question, though. How many other caddies have they ever had who are your age? Just curious.
What you trying to say you young whipper snapper??
Actually none at Mystic Rock only because they never had caddies before. Not sure at their other courses but I know there are some legendary ones at Augusta and Pinehurst that are well older than me !
Thanks all for the encouragement, I think it will be a fun summer, and oh did I mention I get golf privledges !!!
I'm trying to get my son to go for caddie job at Shinnecock this summer. I have a connection to get him in but he's being stubborn about it. Good money and caddie Fridays at a US Open course - what's there to think about.

Thanks -- The sun wont be a problem though the dress code includes the white coveralls like you see them ware at Augusta, can't remember if they're long sleeve, but I think they are....
don't sell youself short Judge, you're a tremendous slouch
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Incredible Cinderella story. This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to lead the pack...at Augusta. He's at his final hole. He's about 455 yards away, he's gonna hit about a 2 Iron I think. [Swings] Oh, he got all of that. The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta. The normally reserved Augusta crowd, going wild... [pauses] for this young Cinderella who's come out of nowhere. He's got about 350 yards left, he's going to hit about a 5 iron it looks like, don't you think? He's got a beautiful backswing... [Swings] That's- Oh, he got all of that one! He's gotta be pleased with that! The crowd is just on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got about 195 yards left, and he's got a, looks like he's got about an 8 iron. This crowd has gone deadly silent... Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters Champion. [Swings] It looks like a mirac- It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Congratulations! I know far too many people are downsized only to take on a job that they hate. Enjoy your summer gig!
