Hi Guys,
Mary and I were talking and I mentioned that the Y i go to has fitlinxx on some of the machines (The ones I use). I just assumed that everyone here had seen them before. I really like it cause it "talks" to me- it'll beep if yo'ure going too fast w/ the exercise (it's personalized to your body) and it'll show you your results etc. Have you guys used it? (if so what did you think?) I can't find any downfalls to it but I also don't use freeweights (yes, I do a girly workout). Here's a link to their info. http://www.fitlinx.com/brand/about_fitlinxx.htm
As a gym newbie I think it's a great program. The free weights scare me. I also have a tendency to hurt myself inadvertantly. The fitlinxx thing makes the machines more accessible to me, as they help me to know that I'm using them correctly and to my potential. It also keeps track of all of my workouts so I can see what I've done so far and where I want to go. What's nice is that it's also attached to a trainer who keeps track of my workouts from a far (i'd much rather not have someone standing by my side) and makes sure that I'm going etc. Overall, I'm really happy with it.
but that's just me
I'm still really scared of free weights .. just today I was bench-pressing DBs the same weight/sets/reps as Saturday when it had gone real well (30s, 2x15) and today I almost lost them at the end of the second set. Took all I had and a piece of my bad shoulder to manage to put them down! Just because I was a little more tired from a day at work
I though of your FitLinxx with a *sigh*
(I'll stick to free weights.. but they still scare me)
One of the Y's I work out at has it, but I don't use the machines much myself. I do log my cardio workouts on it, and used to track my f/w lifting manually through the web site, but it finally got to be too much trouble. I'd have to add and remove exercises each month, to reflect my current routine, and the web site is terribly slow for inputting info. Plus a lot of exercises are hard to find on the web site.
When using machines, though, it seems good for ensuring that you use a full range of motion and control the pace/speed of your movements, and can also be a good motivator - counting fit points, getting to the next level.
The Y here has now launched a "KidLinxx" program, but I don't have much info on that.
Like OG said, "if it works for you, then keep at it".
Hi JavaJunkie - I used it for a bit a few years ago when I joined the gym. It's fine - the only problem is that it can be a real hassle to get a new routine input etc.. That plus moving to more and more free weights made it not worth it for me to stay on it...
hmm.. thanks for the input Oxy. I was wondering about adding weights, etc. to the program but I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the heads up
