After I finished my workout this morning (courtesy of gymrat's sunday motivator) one of the trainer's at the gym where I train stopped me on my way out. He said "Greg, you ever been to the zoo?" Yea, why? "He said in between your sets you never sit down, you just pace back and forth like one of the animals in a cage and you keep looking at the weight like your pissed off at it." I never realised that I did that and now I can't figure out if it was a slam(cuz this guy's a smart ass anyway) or what?
Anyway,how many extra cal's do y'all think I'm burning? :
Keeps you in focus man. Lou actually talks about that in "New Rules" - how everyone sits down now between sets, where as in the old days everything was done on your feet.
More on ya! I stare at my weights like I want to kick the shit of them before all of my lifts.
sit down sit down??? I dont have time to sit down!!! Im up and changing the weights and running round like a chicken on acid to get to my next exercise too!
I never get why people sit down if you keep moving you keep the heart going faster and get the cv benefits too :-)
Rest can be important if doing straight sets when training max. strenght, eg: 1-3 reps at 90-95% 1RM.. A lot triners reccomend 3-5 min. rest between that type of training. AC reccomends 3 mins in New Rules on some of the strenght sets.. Depends on your goals! I hate when people make assumptions on your training when they know nothing about your goals!!
I have no problem with standing, but if your doning 1-3 reps @ 95% 1RM I don't think your doing yourself anygood by running arround like a chicken on acid like metioned in a previous post..
BFG wasn't busting your balls, my comments were more towards the a-hole trainer and his comments. I use a lot of supersets with little or no rest between exercises so I know what you mean, I also pace arround a lot between lifts as well..

Dont forget BFG, your workouts are made up of 1 set per exercise. Most of us do multiple sets, sometimes up to 10 (i.e., CWs 10x3 workouts). Sometimes the best thing you can do is try to recover as much as possible between sets.
Personally I tend to walk between sets, maybe shadow box or move my feet a bit, sometimes stretch if something feels tight, but about 10-20% of the time I'll sit on my ass and pull breath because I'm buggared and know I'm not done yet.
I never sit, either. I don't usually pace around, except when trying to catch my breath in the occasional CrossFit routine. Most of the time, I am prepping a BB or DBs or adjusting my bench or safety rack bars for the next lift.
For max lifts, I'll ususally lay on the floor and just chill for the 3-5 minutes between attempts. Then, spend about 30 seconds to a song jumping around to get pumped. Normally, the rest is spent changing plates, then i'll sit down for the last 30 seconds and get ready mentally.
