Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Aaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
I'm about to turn 29 and I don't have a girl, a car, any money or a real job. All I do is work, lift weights and eat. The joy of my week is the 20 minutes on the way home when I can really blast my metal in the rental car.
My dad was married, had his PhD, a job and a kid by the time he was my age.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Dude. I feel you. (Though I do have a girl- she just turned 8 ). I just reached a point that I wanted a change and started back at school to get a new career. I don't know if you've got a degree or what not, but maybe a drastic change is needed. I'm talking something like school, moving, hitchhiking through Europe- something. Take advantage of your freedom. Just some rambling thoughts.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
So what are going to DO about it!?! I promise you, it ain't gonna get any better so get busy working on ONE of those problem areas NOW and then tackle the others after you've got a handle on at least one of them. If you continue to wait to live your life, you'll wind up missing out on it. Think I'll bring up an old sig line just for you. (give me a minute)
Ahh, there you go! I'm not a BIG C&W fan but I love the message in the song Live Like You Were Dying!
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
My favorite quote:
"If you do as you always did, then you'll get what you always got."
It may not be worded exactly like that, but close enough.
My point is, nobody ever went from nothing to something by sitting around complaining about it. Make goals, and complete them. Your success is measured by the amount of effort you put into it.

You know, he's got a really good point there! Most guys who are 29, married and all the rest would LOVE the opportunity to just be free to try something totally different. Once you get tied in with all the rest of that stuff, there's not much getting out... at least not very easily. I was talking to a professor friend the other day and asked about his son who is not as old as you but has seemed to have had difficulty "finding himself." He said that his son was moving to Hawaii to work on an organic farming operation! Hell, if you're doing to dig around in manure all day, what a great place to do it!!! My daugher did study abroad in London a year ago last fall and loved it (we got to visit). My brother saved his money and got an apartment in Paris for a month... just because he could. I never did anything really cool like that because I DID have a girlfriend, a job, etc. It would add a lot to your life and probably give you a whole new perspective. Chicks dig interesting guys who have done stuff like that. I just wrote a letter of recommendation for a girl and one of the things I praised her for was taking a year off and working in a third world country before she came to college. The possibilities are endless! GO FOR IT!
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Ifeel for you, I really do. HEy I am 31 and I'm just beginning to get where I want to be. Enjoy your life right now, you have no kids to worry about, no one bitching that you don't spend enough time with them or complaining that this or that buggs them about you. The point is enjoy the freedom you have bc someday you may long for the days when you had it. Hell at 31 I have no car , no job, going to school, two kids, no man, I rent a crappy apartment, work my ass off in the gym every chance I get and definately no money, but I won't change it for anything!!! Live in the moment and remember there is always someone worse off. Everything will fall into place with hard work and determination, and when the time is right.. I hope you feel better about your situation soon. keep smiling
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
And, who knows, RH, when you're travelling you could very well meet the girl of your dreams. It can happen ... it did to me. We've been married coming up on 19 years now.

I remember when I was like that, man, that's the life. It's just a slump dude, get over it, things change when we are not even concerned about it.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Rock, you're 29... all you DO is work, lift & eat? C'mon dude look around you. appreciate the things that you have, and look forward to those things that you want and don't have. It'll get better, I promise you......and worse

Yes, that was your dad, not you. Im pretty sure hes in a different field than you too. Im getting a phd because I need it for what I want to do, but rest assured that most of the people I know cut school a long time ago. Theyve got kids, jobs, and probably more money than I do. But I dont envy any of that because Im quite alright with how I go through the day to day stuff and am doing what I chose to do. If youre not happy with your path because youre envying others, then Id take a step back and reevaluate what you have. If youre not happy with your path because you dont feel like its fulfilling you anymore, then change it.
Oh and do you really want a kid right now? If so, then just remember that you wouldnt be able to just pick up and go to London like youre about to. Go to London and live it up. Make sure you go to Ireland, and kick it with an Irish honey while youre there.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Rock: Cool of the trip. Just go have fun.
Now, life planning:
What do you want to do? What would you REEEAAAALLLLY want to do?
If you could pick any profession/career/job you wanted, what would it be?
What would your ideal day be like? What would you get up and go do?
Just some questions to get your mind and heart going?
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Sounds like you should celebrate, make a decision and just go for it! There is no one right answer. Whatever perfection you're searching for is not there. It's all about the journey along the way. There is no answer...you evolve with the choices you make.

Bought tickets to london? Damn talk about rash decisions! That is awesome though, spontaneous, and awesome! Have fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly, you can only do these things when you are single. Even going to the supermarket for me is now a planned event. Used to be just getting into the car and leaving, now I have to dress the baby or get the freaking bottles while the wife do something else, warm up the car in advance and bring it to the front door, at least 5 minutes getting the kid into the car seat and so on. Fuck, sometimes I don't even feel like going out anymore.

Keira Knightley.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
Something physical and/or dangerous. Not just being "macho" here. I've always loved intrigue, fighting, danger... and I do really well on those logic tests.
[ QUOTE ]
What would your ideal day be like?
[/ QUOTE ]
Get up, have my coffee, get back into bed with my girl - doesn't HAVE to be Keira Knightley - then head off to do something in the way of active law enforcement or international government work.
[ QUOTE ]
What would you get up and go do?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, still Keira Knightley.
All joking aside,: excellent point, Chris. You are right.
See, this is why posting on here is so great. A nice e-slap upside the head from everybody.

How about becoming a smoke jumper? Thats exciting, lol. Or maybe one of those medic guys at the slopes that get to rescue the people in avalanches.
[/ QUOTE ]
How's the pay on that kinda stuff? I honestly wouldn't dislike those.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Patience Rock, it will come around. I did get my sh*t together until my mid thirties. Had all kinds of money problems, no prospects, and led a really unhealthy lifesytle. I got it turned around pretty good, just on one job. I stuck with it, and climbed the ranks based solely on hard work ( maybe a little luck too). But things are great now, they will be for you too. Opportunity comes at some crazy times man.
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
why not do some volunteer work? i was having a rough december, jumped headfirst into volunteer work helping kids- one of my favorite things in the world is to make a kid happy. it really helped pull me out of my slump- especially when seeing how bad off their families were- and i thought *i* had it bad. it might help just a suggestion (plus, it's a lot cheaper than flying to europe - although that sounds AWESOME- have fun!!)
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Do as you would do with the gym.
Set yourself a list of goals, looks like you've started!!!
Short medium and long term break it down into bite size chunks. What can I do this week to change my life for the better?
Enrol in a couse? Join a new club? Say hello to a different girl in a shop each week? Stiff like that it doesnt have to be earth shattering just push yourself out of the comfort zone you are in.
If you wanna do a dangerous job then how about volunteering to assist in mountain rescue or whatever it is that takes your fancy.
And oh Keira Knightley why not go get her :-)
Let us know when you are coming to London its only 40 mins by train from me and Im up there all the while
Re: Since I can\'t say this to anyone in \"real\" life:
Join the Marines as an officer... you'll have to start distance running, but the pay is decent, and it'll help you get laid .
Good luck with the trip to England. I wish I could do that.
