We had dinner with our daughter last night and she was telling us what her boyfriend gave her for Valentine's Day. I was IMPRESSED! He called her and told her to check in her car. She finds a card there with the usual mushy stuff written in it and instructions for the scavenger hunt she's about to embark on! She didn't tell us all the stops but one was to go to the place where they "fell in love" and there was a bottle of champaign. At some stops, there would be a card under a rock. He spent a lot of time setting this up. At another stop, she went to one of her favorite restuarants and picked up food to go that was waiting for her. From there, she took it to a local favorite overlook spot where they had Italian food together. Here's a picture (sorry for the size... it's not my pic)
Like I said, I didn't hear (or remember) all the details but I was very impressed at his planning and the thought that went into this. I think he's a keeper! Of course, she's planning to go where the job market takes her when she graduates so we'll see.
All he got was lingerie... that she wore for him.
The best I could ever come up with was a pair of (new) whitie-tighties (Valentine stuff drawn on them, of course) with the waist and leg holes sewn up and M&M's inside. The message was clear...
awwww he's definately a keeper!! I never have gotten anything for v day (which is fine by me) or my bday for that matter(except a watch from the last bf). This guy is gold..
your daughter told you she got lingerie to wear for him? You sure this guys a keeper? he sounds like a creep, and I'm single
Q
My byfrend prepared me a scavanger hunt in our apartement a few years ago.. took me 2 hours to find all the things and read all the poetry he wrote. After 8 years together he's still coming up with new ways to surprise me.
last week-end for v-day I prepared him a scenario (story) with 7 gifts representing the 7 days of the week since love is an everyday thing..
Yup.. Your daughter will have to keep him! but will have to use some more imagination in the years to come

Creep??? She's the one who bought it. It makes him a lot more uncomfortable than it does us since he knows she tells us everything. Keeps him on his toes, too!
Q... I think that Shark is just saying that for fun.. cause he would like a chance with a girl who buys lingerie to wear for her boyfriend
Read it as if he had said at the end "and do remember to tell her that I'm single "
I did the exact same thing with Erika about 12 or 13 years ago... For a surprise birthday party, her clues led her through places we had special memories to friends' houses, where we would pick up a new friend to join our caravan, ending up at our apartment where family and friends had come over while we were gone and decorated the house for a surprise b-day party. Lots-o-fun for sure! He sounds like a cool, creative guy!

You are a lucky father Q to have a daughter who shares everything with you. Yup and the guy will know he cannot mess around with a lifter father-in-law
Too true Mary, thats why I am single or should say was single again. I think people should be as much in love everyday as they were the first day.
Its just laziness not to be yes it may take more effort some days to be romantic when knee deep in knappies or washing or up to your elbows unblocking the drains but if ya cant be like that for th eone ya love then theres no hope!!!
I pity the poor fool that settles with me they have a hard job! :-) But they get a great reward :-)

So have ya met him yet and given him the arbitrary hard time????

Met him yet? Absolutely! We see them both about once a week usually when we're taking them out for a meal (free food for them!). She's very good about running all of her boyfriends by us. She does seem to want our approval most of the time. Kind of goes along with being very open with us.
When I have a daughter and she starts dating, my first order of business will to have a wax sculpture of a male head made and have it put on a mantel and hung on my wall, with the label "The first boy to hurt my daughter." Then I will be forced have a talk to all of the boys interested in my daughter in the living room, where this piece of art will be hung.
