Well after 18 1/2 years wih AT&T we got word that our office is closing on April 21st. Most of our jobs are now outsourced overseas.. They gave us the option to move to Lees Summit MO. and continue with the company, but I'm not sure I want to move when there is no guarentee how long that office will remain open; especially since thes customer service jobs seem to easy to outsource..
I think I'm ready to move on to something else but without a degree and the fear of no benefits for my girls it is just scary!
Thanks Cappy. Yeah I'm trying to look at it as a positive, but this job paid well and the benefits were really good. Oh well, have to go with the flow. I went through a plant closing in 85 and I landed on my feet..
I'm doing customer sales and service, I basicly take customer care calls all DAY!! I really hate what I do so maybe it's a blessing. I'm tired of sitting on my ass all day with a headset attached like a ball and chain..
Actualy would like to get into something that requires a little manual labor..
Steelerfan - I'm sorry to hear about that! At least you're not being pushed out of a job that you really love.
I know this sounds weird, but homedepot pays really well, has great benefits and in some departments manual labor is required.
Sorry to hear about the news, bro. But, since you're not really happy with your current job, perhaps this really is the chance for you to get into something completely different. And, 52 weeks severence doesn't sound like a bad deal, either. Just don't sit back and relax. Get your name out there and start looking now. That severence will be really nice especially if you've got income from your new career at the same time!
ahh "52 weeks severance !" that will surely help you turn around! good! keep faith! things will be better I'm sure!
Steeler, sorry to hear about this, man. No advice to offer, but just wanted to wish you the best of luck in getting back on your feet. A year's severance should give you plenty of time to figure out where you want to be and to get some training for a new path if need be. Keep us apprised of your progress.
