I just wanted to say "you're welcome" for the thanks you're no doubt giving us Canadians for allowing our local boy, Dale Begg-Smith, to get you that gold medal in moguls yesterday.
Now, if we could just figure out how to get our athletes in the Canadian uniforms to get some gold medals ....
I can answer for Canada but for the UK they trace theire ancestory and end up competing for us as they aint good enough for their own country!
What did Canada send us????? Greg Rusedski! And no dont go putting a piccy of him and me up in the JP look alikes the goatee makes me not look like him now!
I think thats our first isn't it. On tv this morning they were praising some aussie chick who got 13th out of 15 competetors. We mustn't be doing that good.
The games aren't shown here until like midnight I think. So haven't been following i'm afraid.
First for these olympics, second ever for winter olympics. Nothing beats the first one though .
According to the folks here it was our outstanding program that brought him over here, but I think I heard a couple of years back that it was actually that the Canadian officials insisted he train, or follow certain protocols. Being independantly wealthy and just doing it for the fun of it he said screw that and found a country that would let him do his own thing.
You're right, Bjs. He is a self-made internet millionaire. Started his own company at 13; he's now 21 and it's said to be worth $40 million. He couldn't fit in the Canadian team's required training regimen so he went country shopping and the Aussies took him in. He certainly proved himself right. He was bloody excellent.
As for the first Aussie gold, in speed skating 4 years ago, that was hilarious - everyone else fell down and the Aussies were the only ones left standing and got over the line first. Classic.
Being married to an Aussie, I feel I get to celebrate both country's victories.
