I guess so. Maybe I just need to go to a race with you some time to fully immerse myself in the culture... See if I can get caught up in the mass hypnosis of being a FAN. I think my problem is that I am too much of a social anthropologist. I go to events like that and I find myself observing the fans more than the sport in question. Hockey games are particularly interesting. People bang on the glass, say things that would make a sailor blush, and get so emotionally involved. I guess it's an emotional outlet for them. Is there racing nearby KC? I may come up some time to check it out.

Kaiser, I don't think the gov looks like Pat Buchanan. It was an award for all my years as chair of the governor's council on fitness. I resigned recently to make more room in my schedule to post - er - to pursue other professional interests! The woman in the photo is my replacement.
I admit, I have a strange fascination with those people. Obviously not all sports fans are like the people pictured, but a lot of them are, especially in the stock car subculture. I have tried for years to understand the base nature of success, those who pursue it, and those who just give up on life. Something has to be shut down, yet when those people start out in life, they have all the same potential enfolded into their being. What is the source of ambition? Why do some people strive and others allow themselves to put on 300 pounds and lose their teeth. It is not just poverty. Anyway, sorry... I didn't mean to get all serious and philosophical on this light-hearted thread.

It's the way we Canadians deal with our passive-agressive tendencies, JP.

Yeah. We get the big ones every July and October.
I've found, that somewhat, the IndyCar fans are a little errr "classier" than the NASCAR fans. It doesn't seem to draw as much from the "redneck" subculture.

We should post this up in Bill Hartman's subforum posing as the guy in the photo and ask him about "scapular stability" etc... He never comes down here so he wouldn't see this coming. Who volunteers for this one?
I've heard Hockey is a great sport but I have never been able to get into it being in a warm climate. Who needs NASCAR when I can get on the Beltway in Houston. It's got faster speeds, better wrecks, and all the right turns.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
now JP's gotta PM Hartman & ask him what he was thinking when he saw it. LMWAO

Alrighty, so this obviously isn't the avatar pic, but it's a supergirl pic nonetheless. I'm being honest that the avatar one is a retarded picture of my face (there's a reason it's cut off for the avatar :p) so I probably won't post it anytime soon, but this is a fun one too. My girlfriend was an FBI agent, so obviously we're attempting to play the parts. Very fun night.
