I didn't want to hijack Greg's thread, but Kaiser gave the advice to read Lance's book..which struck me because I read, and had my father read, Its Not About the Bike..when he was going through prostate cancer. Anyway, two things..
Kaiser, did you ever do the 'ride for the roses'? We have been thinking about raising money to do so..
and
#2) has anyone read the book 'a short life lived well' ..
I believe a few issues back in Men's Health they had a three page teaser. I'm pretty sure the gentleman started Liberty Media and became a billionaire..but was cut down by cancer. I have thought about purchasing the book as my library does not carry it. Has anyone read it?

No, I haven't done the Ride for the Roses. The ride is down in Austin and I haven't been there in about 10 years.

While I haven't read either book, nor have I particpated in the Ride for the Roses, I do want to suggest using the resources that the American Cancer Society has available. I'm sure that all communities that have a local society do an annual event called Relay For Life. It's an all night event (6pm-6am) where volunteers get pledges to walk a certain distance. While I couldn't yet bring myself to volunteer this year for our local event, I did go to the park where it was held and supported our team from work. I also bought a couple of luminaries and several snacks!! The camaraderie and the sense of community is almost overwhelming, especially when they stop the walk at 11:00 pm to light the luminaries and read the names of the persons who've either succumbed or survived cancer. That single event brought me SO much closer to completing my emotional journey.
