A buddy just gave me a Seagate hard drive loaded with 10,000 songs for my birthday. Most of the songs are in M4A format which appears to be incompatible with my Dell computers and Windows Media Player.
Buying a Mac is not an option. How do I play these songs on my Dells?

for my HIITs on the eliptical, and other timed stuff... I want to record my voice over some .mp3s saying when to change speed, the time left etc.. like a trainer would do..
Do you know of a good (free) multi-track editor?
or can something that I should already have with my winXP do the job.

Keep in mind that in converting to mp3, you are losing sound quality (and I believe that m4a/AAC files are both higher quality sound and smaller file size)
For the multi layering, you can use a program I believe it was called Acoustica something or other, you can download a free trial. I would just suggest recording ur voice with Windows Voice Recorder and lay it over the track you want using Acoustica.
KEITH and ODB ! I did a test of .mp3 and my voice and it works very well just using the recorder in Acoustica. The whole thing is EXTREMELY user friendly! The free trial is only good for 7 days, but I might just get it for me.. after doing my HIITs and stuff.. I can think of a number of other uses.
