Yesturday I spent a good half of the day helpin my grandma out in her garden. She's getting up there in age but she still goes full speed regardless of what anyone says. I like to go out there and help her weed out the big parts, pick the tomatos, and plant whatever she went out an bought because if not she will do it all out there by herself when its 100+ degrees and it's a bigass garden. Well I spent four hours weeding it yesturday in a tank top...STUPID! I am not severely burnt on my shoulders, neck, back, and arms and I mean like bloodshot red. I could barely sleep last night because every twinge woke me up, I was supposed to max out on my three lifts today...don't know if that will be happening . I'm stayin home from classes because...well its a good excuse to not go to class and also it sucks to have a shirt on over the burns. Anyone have any remedies or advice on how to heal it up nice and quick?
Have you ever noticed that alomost all after sun/burn creams have aloe in them? Get a really good aloe gel at the drugstore or what's better...find a place to buy an aloe plant. Take a leaf and peel the skin off, rub the "meat" of the plant right on to your skin. That way you have a nice houseplant and you have burn treatment when you need it ( and it's cheaper than those gels ). Take some ibuprofen and remember to keep sunscreen in your car just in case. Good luck, I know it's painful.

Thanks for the advice, I'll see if I can't get my hands on an aloe plant you're talking about. I'm going to ditch the idea of testing my maxes today, I don't think I could lay a barbell across my back or lay on my back to bench press. Oh well, that's life I guess.
There's also a spray you can get from the drug store that will help. It may be called solarcane, or something similiar, and it should be near the aloe.
It cools your skin for about 30 minutes, and you need to reapply often if it hurts alot.
As far as I know it doesn't help the burn like Aloe, though it does stop the pain for a bit. I usually use them both.

Since we do a lot of outdoor, in the water type stuff, we keep this stuff that has alcohol and aloe plus often compounds that end in -caine. It feels really COOL (temperature) when you put it on and helps temporarily. There's tons of them out there so just stop by the local drug store. Like Fish said, putting it in the frig will help make it feel better... but the damage is done! You'll likely peel (part of the healing process) but there's not much else you can do other than to just try to make it feel better in the mean time. Hopefully, it won't hurt more than a day.
In any case, that was very nice of you to help your grandma in the garden! Maybe you aren't as bad as other people around here have claimed recently!
Avoid the peel, which will itch like he**!!!! If you use aloe, most likely you will still peel.
I have found that Noxema works wonders. It cools, it moisturizes, and most of the time I don't peel at all if I use it on a sunburn (I peel every time I use aloe!)
It can be found in most drug stores and supermarkets on the lotion/facial cleanser aisle.
I am currently sunburned too, so I completely sympathize!
Rev-
I got a suburn on top of my head over the weekend and just rubbed Lubriderm on it after I got out of the shower. That has limited the peeling and made it feel a little better.
I SLOWLY put a shirt on and walked to the store to pick up some aloe...wow it feels really good, but leaves this weird sticky film over my skin, I'll have to wash it off. Thanks for the tips people.

All I have to say about that is...who pooped in my gym bag?!
Yea i third the noxema-last june after graduation had 2 parties on back to back days. Both pool parties that went from noon to around 6-7ish. Yea, for me, there's a fine line between tan and burnt, so by the end of the 2nd party, it hurt to lift my arms even a little bit. Add the fact that i spent the next day at a waterpark (big class graduations thinger) and i was set . i found the noxema, plus the lukewarm/cool baths helped. I had the blisters and everything-signs of second degree burns. Fortunately for me, the new skin grew in fast, so after about a week, i was fine again-did peel like crazy, but it wasn't bad at all and i spent my days either in the tub or sitting on my bed without a shirt wit my family catering to almost every need
EDIT: they make a sensitive skin noxema which i am 99% sure has aloe in it.

All I have to say about that is...who pooped in my gym bag?!
I'm glad that it was "just a sunburn!" Having literally been on fire myself (just my legs but I was wearing shorts), I was relieved when I read that you were only out in the sun too long.
