Nude Canoeing!

County Bans Nude Canoeing

If you're planning to go canoeing on southwest Missouri's Elk River, keep your clothes on.

McDonald County Commissioners have passed a law banning nudity on all county waters. Violators can be fined up to $1,000.

The new ordinance passed Wednesday, and officers patrolling the river will begin enforcing the law immediately. Commissioners took the action after two women were attacked over the weekend after they asked some topless canoeists to cover themselves -- because there were children nearby.

The county prosecutor and the commissioners had been discussing an ordinance banning nudity on the river for several weeks. The weekend incident prompted them to take action.

Interesting. I actually grew up in McDonald County--and my parents owned cabins on the Elk River. So I probably spent 90 percent of my summers up until I was 13 on those river banks. (I was a regular Huck Finn.) Unfortunately, no one was "nude canoeing" back then.

The nude canoers will probably head back to Arkansas anyway...wouldn't surprise me to catch them on the Buffalo, King's, or Mulberry!!!
