I just got back from a 4-day trip to Glacier Nat'l Park in Montana, and WOW it was nice!! That's why I haven't been around of the forums since last Wednesday.
I'm about to go pick up my pictures, so I'll scan the good ones and post them here.
Anyway, I'm always reminded when backpacking how good it is for calf development. I can barely walk today
I'm so jealous. I get mountain fever about this time every year, and usually go to Colorado or the Sierras in Cali for a big hiking/rock climbing trip every summer. Alas, I am too busy with work to make a trip this year. *sigh*
Those are great photos, John. I love Montana! Went there about 3 years ago, and want to go back, especially after seeing your photos.
Location: Philly on one side, Pittsburgh on another, the Green Between...

OMG...it's beautiful! Looks like you and the Ms. are quite happy, as well....a good time was had by all? How close was that Mountain Goat--looks like he was right on top of you.

JP, I remember you telling me about hiking in Colorado as a kid. And like you, I was getting seriously stir-crazy before the trip. I haven't gone on an excavation in 2 years now, and I've been feeling it.
Did you go to Glacier park when you were in Montana?

My girlfriend was skeptical about going in the first place, but she was a trooper and ended up having a great time. She even contemplated staying there at a lodge below the glacier to work for a few weeks.
That mountain goat was about 100 ft away, but I had a zoom lens. Didn't really need it though, because right after this shot, he walked up within 10 feet of us. Someone must have been feeding him.
That goes up there with my dream vacations. How good shape do you have to be in to do that. Since my wife is getting better, I'm getting really optimistic and that would be a good thing for us to shoot for.

I guess it depends on how much weight you're carrying. I was carrying most of the stuff for 2 people, probably over 80 lbs, and I was exhausted after hiking 6.7 miles up to our first campsite.
The trail we took (going up to Sperry Glacier) winds it's way up to a lodge where people can ride horseback to, or hike to during a day. So I saw people in their 60's and 70's climbing up to the lodge. It's just a great place all around, so you and your wife should definitely check it out.
