This kid asks one of my buddies for a spot. So my buddy finishes his set, goes over to the bench area, where the kid is getting ready to do the bench press....and a cell phone starts ringing.
The kid gets up from the bench, goes over to the phone (about 30 feet away), checks the number, looks at his phone, then goes back and does his set. My buddy could not believe it. If it were me, I would have left his sorry-ass to lift on his own...
It's summertime and the college consversants are in my gym. We've had an inordinate amount of guys doing squat push presses and bicep (or as they will say, 'bicept') curls right in front of the DB rack (OK, in our gym the DB rack is about 25 feet long). I mean, about 1 foot back...it's as though they are severely nearsighted and can't see themselves in the mirror if they don't get close enough. I'm not waiting though....when they do this and I have to return or get a DB, I squeeze in as much as I can in front of them (this from a guy who goes out of his way not to walk in between someone and the mirror if they are working). If someone ever says anything, watch as I go off in an explanation of weight room etiquette. Preferably not with said DB in hand, as I tend to get animated.
At least I still look like I know my way around the gym...was asked for a spot the other morning when there were a ton of guys around. I guess doing 1-1/3s front shoulder raises and carrying a logbook makes you look like you know something...even if you are doing the raises with 10 lb DBs. (Hey, they are part of a tri-set! And I am always at the far end of the weight rack when it comes to shoulder work.)

"Listen here, sonny boy, in my day we didn't curl 6 inches from the dumbbell rack, nor in the squat rack, and we didn't take calls on our new-fangled cell phone machines during workouts. Damn whippersnappers....." (wipes steam from bifocals)

The worst ones are the people who wear the same stinky workout clothes every day for 12 years. There out to be a law....
