I've always found octopi to be amazing creatures. Here are a few clips that are really interesting.

They're very affectionate - we used to scuba at a 30m deep reef and there was an 8' accross octopus that lived there and used to come out and play, hug and generally act about with us.

That would be awesome. Now if I could only get over my fear of being eaten by a shark I'd do that in a heartbeat!

Do my eyes deceive me? Anubis posted a topic in Off Topic that didn't need a warning label. I was able to actually enjoy one of your posts!

I have always been fascinated by the giant squid. I think I'll add Octopus to my list of favorite animals too.

But I've posted many appropriate things here, they just go overlooked, alas...

Yeah, Squid are really interesting too. I was watching a special on the national geographic channel awhile back about squid. This couple was diving where there were hundreds of them. They were giant too (averaging 8 feet in length). They were flashing red and white as they got more and more excited.

Once I'm done with school in May, I'm going to do a lot of research on these invertebrates as they are just way too cool

Encounters with the giant squid are rare. There have only been a handful since the 1800's. Recently, for the first time, live video pictures were taken of a squid.

The giant ones have bodies about 20' long with eyes 18" across.

Scary....

Yeah, the only way they were able to be around so many of them was to dive around a group of fishing boats who were fishing for them (pretty sad).

I guess it was one of the first times they were filmed in their natural habitat.

It was pretty funny when the divers were near a giant squid who got caught by a fishing line. They would cut the squid free and the fishermen above would just assume that the line broke

I've been trying to google search the documentary I saw and can't find any info. on it.

I did come across the photo's taken of the giant squid from Japan. I'm certain it was the same type of squid. They were as big or bigger than the divers filming them.

I can't remember if it was national geographic or discovery channel.

Okay,

I think I found it.. I guess they are a cousin of the giant squid called a Humboldt or Jumbo Squid. Anyway here is the link. It was a really neat documentary.
