Ok, so let's start with an update on my friend. The kid who he hit with the bat, died last week, the newspapers are making the kid look like an angel and well now my friend is being charged with murder.
I went into one of my 3 classes last week and the prof. goes "I decided to cancel the last class so your final paper is due next week." WEll just f*cking great. Sounds like a super idea to me, except that I was really counting on using this week to write my paper.
In my acting class, yes acting, I have to memorize like 6 pages of lines, which I have not started on yet.
The other teacher I work with (we share a class of 17 3/4 year olds) is going to be out wed.-fri which means that I'll have to do all the lesson planning for those days, on top of my final (due wed.).
A couple days ago I was running my tongue along the roof of my mouth and found a little (pimple like) lump on it. If i take my finger and push down on it a little bit it hurts, but it's not excruciating. With a quick google search I came out with some of the following: herpes (just f*cking great), oral cancer (my mom died of cancer, and like 4 of her bro/sisters had it along with my grandmother from my father who had skin cancer) so i could likely have that, or it could be a syst (here's hoping)...Before I get it checked out though, I have to get a new PCP because I don't like the one I go to now.
Oh and with Christmas fast approaching, I'm prety much flat broke.
I just did a little more snooping around and someone online said they get "mouth ulcers in times of stress" which makes me hopeful, but still VERY scarred.
Wow, this is one of those things that you can never really know how to respond to. Best of luck to your friend and all your work you got to do. I'm sure your mouth thing is not a big deal, probably just something minor, at least I really hope so.
As for Christmas, just hand out "free back rub" coupons to all the good looking girls you know, and make construction paper christmas cards for all those not-so-close relatives and friends.
That is pretty much what I do every year....

Those 'mouth ulcers' are a type of the Herpes virus. The virus lies dormant and comes out in times of stress or during another oppurtunity when your immune system is compromised (such as during a cold, which is why they are sometimes referred to as cold sores). It's better to have them on the inside of the mouth, than on the lips which is where they come out on many people.
Oh yeah, don't perform oral sex on anyone. This type of virus is transferrable to sexual organs.
My heart goes out to your friend - he was in the right - but he must feel guilty as hell anyway, plus all the legal crap too!!!

Mouth ulcers or canker sores are just one of those things. A little Baby Oragel (SP?) will help you get through them. I had them since I was young. I guess I'm a ball of stress.
I wouldn't worry to much. From what I can tell they are significantly different than fever blisters so oral sex is ok. But then again I'm not a doctor.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
The thing is that the bump isn't like an open ulcer type thing like I've seen on google images. I also get canker soars, or used to but haven't gotten them since I switched toothpaste (Rembrant without SLS).
Without knowing whether or not it's a cold sore it's NOT OKAY to perform oral sex. You can definitely pass on HPV-1 to the genitalia and there is NO CURE for it. Not something to take lightly considering half the population in the U.S. has the HPV-1 virus.
If you don't want to take my word for it here is a link regarding this issue. HPV-1
"Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are painful blisters on or near the lips caused by herpes simplex virus type 1, or HSV-1."
From his description.
"I was running my tongue along the roof of my mouth and found a little (pimple like) lump on it. "
All that said go get it checked out if you're in doubt. No point in letting anything go if you don't have to. I've let some things go longer than I've need and I've lived to regret it.

Yes but I have a family member who gets 'cold sores' inside the mouth. They occur primarily on and around the lips but they can occur in the mouth. I've learned this from school as well.
With the knowledge that they can be passed on to other tissues, it's obvious they can occur in the mouth as well as 'any' body part they are exposed to during a break-out.
Anubis, why are you freaking out about HPV? its more like 70-80% of sexual active Americans have it. If you have sex with 3 partners, you have a 110% statistical chance of having it. Transfer from mouth to genitals is possible, though rare (strains tend to localize).
The kids freaked out enough as it is... let him breath. Besides, with keiths schedule, he won't be eating box anytime soon anyways

It's more of a debate between Deserve and I now. I'm not talking about HPV 6 and 11 which are sexually transmitted by the genitalia. I was specifically referring to HPV-1 which isn't related to sex but can be if during an outbreak you perform oral sex on someone.
Sorry if I've given you too much info. Keith. I guess I got carried away on the issue and should have considered how you were feeling. I hope all goes well for ya man.
I've kinda settled down. As Chris said, there's no chance of me eating box anytime soon anyway. I am WAY too fucking busy with school and work. And if I did end up messing with a girl right about now, I'd doubt that I'd be going down on her since I don't have any prospects right now...
Stress can be a powerful enemy. I had a day in hell and I hated every second at work today but managed to shake it off and I'm pretty relaxed. Each day has it's own bullshit, so try to forget it and let tomorrow happens. I feel for you, oral sex is fucking great.

Here is help for memorizing the lines. Promise me you'll try it, it is amazing. When I had drama, I would memorize my lines while walking or running. It worked twice as fast plus it made the walking go faster.
The bump does not sound like mouth herpes or mouth ulcers which I assumed were one and the same. I have had the ulcers all my life and I liked Anubis being quick to warn - more people need to know that. I have had bumps but they always popped. I have no idea what they were but have always ignored them.
Wish I could to the childcare for you! Hang in there. What you posted is exactly why I'll never go back to school, it is a bitch.

They usually heal up in 5 days to 2 weeks.
Your advice is RIGHT on the money Anubis...but just so no one gets confused...it's hSv not hPv. Herpes Simplex Virus versus Human Papilloma Virus. HPV causes warts and there are multiple strains, some causing "common" warts and some causing genital warts and yeah Shark, almost everyone is a carrier of one strain of HPV or another.
HSV recurrance is very common during times of stress. If you have ever had "fever blisters" it is a strong possibility that what you are feeling is a HSV blister. Having said that, if you have never had a fever blister-I'd get your mouth checked out just to be sure but it's probably stress induced. Don't freak, but Anubis is right. Both HSV-1 and 2 can cause either genital blisters or oral blisters even though that type of transferrance is rare, so be considerate of your partner. Also typical of stress and vitamin/sleep deficiency is something commonly referred to as "geographic" tongue. Bald spots on your tongue that are sometimes very painful and may also have small blisters. Things like that are great indicators when you are under too much stress. Good luck finding ways of reducing it...and when you figure it out, let me know, I'm always looking for stress reduction!
hmmmm yes and no...Herpes and Papilloma are different "families" but there are similarities. Both are incurable viruses. Both lie dormant just sort of waiting to come back. There are types of each that CAN be STDs, but most aren't. Chicken Pox is a herpes virus. Plantar warts are HPV, neither are STDs. There is a better (more provable) link between HPV and cancer than there is with HSV although there are indications that HSV could also lead to certain cancers. HSV is better known for stress induced recurrance because of the mechanism of dormancy. It goes latent in the ganglia so when you're stressed (nervous-get the connection?) the virus reactivates and BOOM-fever blisters, genital blisters, and shingles which is the recurrance from chicken pox(varicella zoster virus) WHEW...was that more than you ever wanted to know?

I think you guys are talking about different versions of doom and gloom most of which sounds improbable.
I can't find anything that says canker sores translate into any sexually transmitted diseases.
Here is what I was talking about as described on the Mayo clinic website.
"Small and out-of-sight, but painful, persistent and annoying. That's what canker sores, also called aphthous ulcers (aphthae), are like for people who experience them. These shallow ulcers in your mouth can make eating and talking uncomfortable. They may occur on your tongue, on your soft palate, inside your cheeks or lips, and at the base of your gums.
Canker sores differ from cold sores in that they occur in the soft tissues of your mouth and aren't contagious. Conversely, cold sores rarely develop in the soft tissues of your mouth and are extremely contagious because they're caused by the herpes virus.
Canker sores are common, but the cause in many cases is unknown. Canker sores can occur at any age, but often first appear when you are between 10 and 40 years of age."

Key...cold sores/fever blisters have a different causitive agent but it can be difficult to know which you have unless you have had them before and/or have a professional opinion. Also key is the statement that cold sores RARELY occur inside the mouth, but it does happen. No one is trying to provide a definitive diagnosis, that would be irresponsible. Just giving reasons why you should or shouldn't get it checked. Most likely it's a stress induced ulcer, has nothing to do with herpes or cancer. Immune systems are cool. No reason to add stress upon stress. Edit: I never said I thought it was a fever blister..was really just trying to horn in on the discussion about HSV and HPV.
