In case you missed my last message in the CE before I shut it down, here is what I posted:

Quote:
I'm not real happy with the way things are going in here. I don't know that I have any answers, but in the interest of keeping things peaceful while I think of a workable solution, I am going to shut this forum down for a little while. None of the posts will be lost. It will just be de-activated for the time being. Please don't carry any arguments going on in here to the OT or they will be promptly deleted. You are welcome to make suggestions if they are well thought-out and fair. Send them to me via PM.
This should only be temporary. Those of you addicted to it, sorry... It's going to be just as hard for me, I promise. When it goes back up there will be some changes. Thanks in advance for your patience.

How about a new topic area called "News".

Or, perhaps, "Abortion, Capital Punishment, Gun Control, Prisons, Immigration, War and the Military, Racial Politics, Women's Issues, Birth Control, Drugs and Alcohol, Red and Blue Politics, and International Affairs."

I think we all just need to go to our rooms for a few minutes and take a time out. Give it a few days and we should be ready to carry on civil discourse.

What? Did I miss something? No more hate and rage filled chat on JPFitness?

I am sure it's the Bush administrations fault.

Me too. I just posted this morning, and things seemed peaceful. What did I miss? Someone PM me, thanks. I can talk about hygiene for only so long.

My impression is that it was a combination of things, not one event.

I began posting in the CE a while back and, as a conservative, just didn't feel welcome. The tone is often too intense with some just not willing to admit that there are differing opinions on just about every issue. A few threads started to deteriorate into bashing on a personal level. It was easier to just stop going there.

I have tried not going there. If I could have had the self discipline it would have been a benefit to me and the LCJC.

I just don't like seeing fellow forumites speak to each other like they did. Those of you launching personal attacks against others in there best not carry your fight into the main forums. I have no patience for it and I will ban with extreme prejudice.

Mahler, you're always welcome anywhere you go. I really appreciated having you down there actually. It was nice to have a reasonable conservative who was willing to really dive into intelligent discussion.

The idea of the forum is not being right... It was about the discussion. This country is really divided right now. This may just be a little, unimportant forum, but it is a cross section of this country, and it reflects the problems going on right now. If we can figure out how to cross that gap maybe there will be hope for the rest of this country. I guess I'm just a deluded idealist.

This decision was not partisan in any way. I really just need a break. I leave my computer for a few hours, come back and some major blow-up will have taken place. And I know it's "just a forum", but it effects me. When it goes back up there are going to be some rules, and they are not going to be up for debate. The first person to test the boundaries of the rules of that forum will simply lose access to that forum.

That is all assuming that I actually turn that forum back on. I may be so relieved to not have to babysit anymore that I just leave it down.

well defined rules, with well defined consiquences, with everyone falling under them.

JP.. I have been understanding a lot of internation politics lately from the CE sub-forum. I would be sad to see it go. Wondering if it would be possible to leave it ON and not let anyone post until a solution is reached. At least people like me can gain a lot of understanding on certain issues.

Just a thought.

Look at you showing off your html!

Probably true though. I was unexplicably chipper last night.

Careful Sweetie, your post count is starting to look like a more serious contributor!

Well, I'll have to keep doing this until you change your mind.

Wait, that's not going to work.

It's too bad that CE is down. Despite the bickering there were some really good threads on there. We did have a good discussion on Intelligent Design going on, which I remembered when seeing this article on the NY Times website today.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/04/we...l?pagewanted=1

I guess we'll have to ignore the news for now until JP decides what his plans are.

Just kidding, JP. Out of all the forums I'm sure the CE gave you the most angst.

Was it my Canadian Politics topic that got everybody up in arms....no can't be cuz everybody up here is ignoring it too..christmas shopping crowds are irritating enough.

I'm on OG's side in this debate...I'd sooner talk about the merits of surgical enhancements...damn where are those rose coloured glasses?

It was getting a little too much like substance abuse in there. That doesn't mean I don't miss it though.

I feel like a CE rehab patient.

The few times I snooped around down in CE, I could almost feel the bullets whizzing over my head.

Maybe you all should consider this the 'Christmas Cease-Fire.'
