And the little bastard only got charged with a misdemeanor.

Quote:
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - A teenage driver accused of text messaging behind the wheel and hitting a cyclist was charged with a misdemeanor, authorities said.

The 17-year-old was charged with careless driving causing death, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

The victim, Jim R. Price, 63, was riding his bicycle Nov. 23 when he was hit by the teen’s car, said Lt. Alan Stanton, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Price died two days after the accident.

The teen has not been identified because he is a minor. Authorities said he lost control of the car because he was sending text messages on a cell phone. He was issued a summons and ordered to appear in court, authorities said.

Thanks for the link, Joe. I totally missed that one over there.

What a terrible shame.

That really sucks. Even though they have the "no hand held" cell phone law here in NY very few people follow it. And to them the phone conversation is the most important thing going on.

That's when you sprint after him and give the Hummer a swift kick in the door!

My shoes have two cleats in the front of the shoe for extra damage to doors.

If I felt safe enough I would do it. I've kicked a few doors in my time. Never know what these jerks will do though. He was driving a large truck afterall.

Wow...that is a sad story. It sounds like the biking community lost a great friend and advocate. I hope the kid can one day understand the number of lives he hurt because he had to take that message.

Everytime I see someone driving and talking on a cell phone I want to beat the crap out of them! I'd like to tell them to dial 911 right away, 'cause it will be hard to do it with the phone shoved up their arse!

I try not to cycle on well traveled roads very often. I've been honked at a few times and buzzed but that happens even when I'm running sometimes. While running I have had to start crossing several streets in the middle instead of at the light because in AR, pedestrians have no right of way and I've almost been hit NUMEROUS times even though I have the cross walk signal, it's easier to see traffic in the middle of the street and not worry about who's turning right on red. Once I'm at the light waiting and waiting, I'm crossing North and this guy is at the light coming south and chatting away on his phone. He's not turning right on red and doesn't have a blinker on so automatically I assume he's going straight, right? NO, the f*&^er waits till I get the cross walk signal then he TURNS RIGHT and almost hits me. Has the nerve to honk at me. Jack ass. Lisa's rant for the day.
