Shannon and I went up to Canmore, which is about one hour east from here, on Saturday and did a short hike. Maybe 2 hours in and out after it was all said and done and you count the wrong turns!
First up is Shannon at the trail head sign. She said I was a geek for taking that picture. You will note I am not holding a Starbucks cup at anytime during this hike.
The next two are from our wrong turn. It is pretty much the only time we were in forest, the majority of the hike is along a stream bed.
See, no Starbucks....
The next one is near the end of the first segment of the hike. Most of the hike is scenery like this.
This next one is mostly for scale. I stand 6'5".
And lastly at the end of the hike we have a hoodoo with a cave.
All in all it was an excellent way to get outside and get some excercise. The trip was an excellent success and I should have no problem getting her to go again. We both desire to do more outside stuff and now that we have a partner to do it with it should be awesome!
I also have more pics and a description of the hike in my blog if your interested.

Looks like a really great time. Outdoors in the wilds, fresh air, pretty girl....God, life can be good!

No based on the time of year I elected not to explore the cave of death.
It was a great place to hike though. I look forward to expriencing the other hikes the area has to offer.
And yes I am truly blessed to have her with me.

The town of Canmore is listed at 4300ft. The Grotto Trail hike is listed as light with an elevation of about 50ft.
Calgary is listed at about 3700ft.
We are going to get a guide book and hopefully hit some more interesting trails. And alot more detail on elevations and such.

I'm surprised, Og, that there's not more snow at that elevation at this time of year. Is that unusual?

ahhh well there was more snow the next day, weather is sorta weird around here. I did actually expect more snow, but it is just barely in the foothills.
We had like +15c in Calgary last week and now it's -17c hahhaha
Thanks Moutain_marc, we'll look into that peak, sounds fun.
Good times.

Those are some really cool pics. I love great scenery and the outdoors and memorable photos like that. Having someone to share the experience, well, that's even better!
