I was just going to let it go....but I couldn't. So I fired off another e-mail, because I was, quite frankly, perplexed and a little pissed at their responses. My reply....just because:

Thanks for considering my application. For the record, one of the reasons the application was rejected was the "dubious" nature of a connection between colorectal cancer and the high-fat, high-cholesterol, high sugar offerings of the fast food industry. Your people might want to consider:

"High sugar intakes have been associated with...Increased risk of colorectal cancer." From: http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/b...d?OpenDocument

In order to lower the risk of colorectal cancer, Dr. Sears and the people that developed the anti cancer diet recommended lowering the intake of fat, eating the right fats, and eating less bad fats.
Link: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T040300.asp

There are also links that show colorectal cancer related to increased intake of red meats...like, ummmmm hamburgers. Another link: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/hea...eatcancer.html

And, the American Cancer Society, which knows a thing or two about the disease, recommends: "Diet and exercise: It is important to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods and to limit high-fat foods." Why do they recommend this? Because they do research and they have found links. Under the heading of What Causes Colorectal Cancer? they state: "Diet: A diet high in fat, especially fat from animal sources, can increase the risk of colorectal cancer." Source: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/co...r.asp?rnav=cri

Honestly, I don't care if you accept my submission or not, but when the head of McDonald's dies of a cancer induced by the kind of food his company hawks to millions of people, I think you might want to take a look a little deeper than simply saying dubious, pointless, etc. and tossing it on the scrap heap. If this idiot does not exemplify the kind of people for which Darwin is so rightfully famous, I can't imagine who is....

This is just a website. Its not a peer reviewed site so its going to lack credibility.

I dont agree with a lot of what he's saying, his wording sings to paranoia.

The thing with this article is that it doesnt seem to address sample selection. Could it be that people who eat a lot of red meat also tend to do things like drink beer in excess, smoke, be inactive, etc? If so then its easy to come up with a study that says red meat is culprit because, statistically, youre not controlling for other factors. This is why there are so many studies that X causes cancer. One thing to note is that correlation is not causation, and they never tell you what the correlation coefficient is. If beef was really that bad for you, then why is that other red meats like venison and bison considered better?

The Eskimos would have died trying to follow these guidlines.

The biggest thing with cancer is the fact that people are under caloric excess consumption and not working out. The key word here is "excess." Hell, natural peanut butter (a "clean" food) can cause cancer or poison you if you eat it substantially large amounts.

Considering that 60% of the population is obese and all of the research showing the effects of obesity, are you really surprised with the results? If these studies and reccomendations performed or cited peer reviewed setups controlling for obesity and other omitted variables, it would be much more credible.
