Alright, about 6 months ago, a couple of threads were started concerning new years resolutions. well, since half the year is gone, i figured it'd be interesting to see how we're all doing on them. here were mine:

1) continue to start on my freshman bball team

2) make the varsity baseball team

3) Read and expand knowledge on athletic training (specifically hs aged athletes)

4) bench 150+

5) squat 200+

6) deadlift 200+

7) add some o-lifts to my lifting

8) be a better family member (not like i've been a bad one [Razz] )

9) keep my grades up, EARN a 4.5+ GPA and make the principal's list

RESULTS:
1) I did start all but 1 game on my freshman basketball team.

2) I didn't make the varsity team but our varsity firstbaseman was the best in the county so i've gotten over it. He's a sophmore so i'll be moving to the outfield during summer ball to become more versatile for next year. He will become one of the 2 aces of the pitching staff, i'm hoping to play first while he pitches and to be able to play some outfield as well.

3) I've been doing good with this stuff-i made my own microsoft publisher webpage that basically said the basic stuff of lifting and nutrition in easy to understand terms and i've read 2 new books- Core Performance and Scrawny to Brawny. Plus, i've obviously been reading this forum and other stuff online.

4) not yet at 150, but that's my goal for the end of the summer. The most i've done is 115 for 3 reps, which using the one calculator guesstimate equates out to about 125 lbs. i've done that in the past, it's just that i haven't had a spotter, so i didn't want to push it.

5) My PR at the moment is 160. I've been off for about a month-we had a lot of games to finish up the regular season, then a tournament, and since then i've had 3 weeks off because i've been studying like crazy for finals and my sister just graduated so my family went crazy to get ready for the dinner and the ceremony and now we're in crazy party planning mode. BUT, next week, monday is my last day of school, i'm starting StB with some stuff from Core Performance mixed in. So, my squat will go up.

6) Did that-many times i've done 250 for multiple reps on a few occassions. Now, onto 300 by my birthday

7) haven't been able to do that....yet. But, my baseball coach (the AD as well) really was impressed by Seton Hall Prep (one of the top baseball teams in NJ) and Hudson Catholic's size and strength. So, he called up a DePaul graduate who is a sports training coach at One Human Performance-a place that's worked with many top athletes in HS and college-some of the best players on our team go there. This guy made up a routine for us to do over the summer. So, i plan to do the corrective stuff for StB and then this guy's lifting regime. i'm not sure if it'll include o-lifts, but if it does, i'll be psyched. If not, then maybe i'll find a coach to teach me.

8) Not gunna comment on this one...for good reasons naw, i've been doing better

9) My grades have been up-around a 4.17-4.5 GPA by my own calculations. I'll get my report card with GPA in a few weeks so i'll update then.

So far, i've done 5 out of the 9. I didn't reach 1 of my goals, but now i got more motivation. I will get the lifting ones by the end of the summer and i'll have to see about the o-lifts-i don't want to learn them the wrong way and hurt myself-will try to find a coach.

My new summer goals include:

1) Squat 200+
2) Bench 150+
3) Be able to grab the rim of a basketball hoop again (i've lost some ups without basketball)
4) Life Scout by my birthday
5) 300 lb deadlift by my birthday.

Alright, that was long, but how are you guys doing with your resolutions?

OK Kev, here it is:

Dec: 04
Age: 39
Ht: 171 cm (5'7")
Wt: 75kg (165)

Now
Age: 40
Ht: 171 cm (5'7")
Wt: 66 kg (148)

Final Goals:
•be able to do laundry on abs!!!!
•ripple like a pond
•be a poet (kidding!)

•improve strength in core esp. lower back

Previous Goals:

•Bench my body weight: 1 rep max
by lowering my body weight I was able to do this LOL, but I have npt gone in search of the max HGM does not do a lot of flat bench and I am pretty burnt after the workouts to give it a try. I will take a week off after phase 6 and see then

•Squat my body weight (8 x 3) 66kg

a joke.. no problemo

•Deadlift my body weight (8 x 3) 66kg

No problemo

•pull-ups (8 x 2)
Barely did it!

•I think this was adversely affected by training at home (no pull down cable machine/ no bar),
My pull down attachment arrived today! So I will be able to increae this with a better back workout!

•dips (8 x 3)
No problemo

Phase 5 is dead, in week 2 of phase 6. I will post some new goals soon. Kev, thanks for getting me thinking about new numbers.

OTHER
I have found that there are abs under the gut: top one and half abs, now visisble (abt 20 % fat, but I think my scale read high LOL)
MAJOR NEWS

I bought some 31" pants a few weeks ago, bit tight but... Now they are a bit loose!! I tried out some 30's and they fit!!!. I will "swim for a while in my 31's and see if I can get down to 29s (The problem of course is the abs are not yet 30's )

Cheers

Peter
