Default Calorie question from a newbie

Hi there
So I just got the book, I've been training for a year and a half and I love weight training, I've lost 12kg so far. I'm now happy with my size, but my bum and thighs still have a lot of fat. i've been eating 1400 cals a day - which is 50 more than my bmr, and exercising, but I'm tired and constantly hungry. AS you might have guessed I haven't seen results for a while so I got this book.

and now it tells me to eat between 1800 - 2100 cals..... wow, that is a big step, how do I overcome this idea in my mind that it is too much? How will my body react to this?

Please help me.

I can relate. Not only is it mentally challenging to realize eating that much more is going to be ok, but I found it was actually difficult to figure out HOW to eat that much in a day when I thought I was already satisfied on fewer calories.

I did not bump up my calories all at once - I tried to increase by about 50-100 calories per day, per week, to give my body a chance to get used to it.

Instead of adding lots more meals and snacks (I was already eating 3 meals per day plus a couple snacks), I thought about ways I could add healthy calories to things I was already eating - such as adding hummus or avocado to my sandwiches at lunch time, adding protein powder or peanut butter to my oatmeal for breakfast, using a bit more olive oil in my dinner recipes.

Also remember that the recommendation might not work for everyone - I find that my maitenance level is not as high as what the book's calculations suggest for me. Then again, I was obese for most of my life and thus gain fat very easily, so it makes sense that my maitenance level is a bit less than the average person.

GL, it gets easier!

Thank you CaraBeth

I haven't even thought of doing that, the first thing I thought was wow... a lot of extra food, but your ideas are really useful. I shall give it a go and update you shortlyl.
