Default squats

I am interested in trying this program again, but I am unable to do squats effectively.

A little background: I was squatting for months, great technique and form, using Starting Strength as my bible, and was able to progressively lift heavier. I hurt myself recently in a way that will affect my ability to do squats. Is there an exercise I can replace them with?

THanks

Is it an issue with back squats where you could substitute front squats or are those out as well?

no squats at all. Part of my injury involves issues with low back ligaments.

What about lunge or other single leg movements? Can you do BSS for example?
Single leg "stand ups" from a bench?

What about gentle step-downs from a low height (like curb high) where you concentrate to hold your hips level, maintain your pelvic tilt and bend the working leg to just touch your heel to the ground and return?

Yes, I can do single leg stuff or lunges too. Step ups would work too. Can I substitute? ....just wondering on the efficacy of it.

Well, what are your choices really?
If you cannot do even BW squats or unloaded wall squats - your choices are
a) don't substitute anything, just leave that portion out of your workout
b) substitute some other exercise that will at least work similar muscle groups

Which would be more effective?

That said - do you have exercises from PT that you are supposed to do for your back?

The third choice is dont do the program and wait until I am able to do squats.

yes, working with chiro and he is doing PT with me. Lots of different stuff that is helping quite a bit.
