Default Standard plate size

Along the lines of standard deadlifts vs. deficit deads discussion, what is the standard size for 45# plates? The ones I have at my gym are between 17 and 18 inches in diameter. If I put the safety bars on the lowest setting in the power rack, the 45# weights are still a few inches (3 or 4) from touching the ground.

This is the rack I use: (but the plates are different)

The plates are these:

It seems that plates that are marketed to the Oly-lifting crowd measure 17-3/4", but I haven't been able to find that listed as on "official" diameter. If that is, though, it sounds like my 45# plates are the standard diameter, but the lowest setting on the power rack wouldn't get me to a standard height with the smaller plates I use.

I guess I just need to get stronger so I can DL 135#!

huh, I don't know what the standard diameter is either, but the bar should be hitting approx. a couple inches below your kneecap I believe.
