My husband and I went to GNC to take a look at protein powders, vitamins, etc. He just wanted to take a look.
So the kid helping us out kept talking about the programs we are on, and kept referring to what we need in terms of protein, vitamins and nutrition by saying to my husband, "someone like you returning to a program" and saying to me "someone like you new to exercise."
Um... HELLO? I am definantely new to lifting, but I am a RUNNER, jerk face. My husband hasn't done any serious exercise, endurance or weights, since he left basic training 18 years ago.
and apparently he thought you'd need different protein powder if you were returning to training after 20 years vs. first time lifting at approx the same age?
The guys that work at GNC are not known for their IQ levels
Every one I have ever talked to has sounded stupid. Admittedly, I am sure they spend all their free time reading stuff that would bore me to tears.
Last time I was there, the GNC salesman was talking to me, but couldn't keep his mind on what he was saying cause he kept glimpsing at his folded arms in the tiny strip mirror that was on the walls behind me.
That is so sexy

Hell, the first time I went in to get protein powder to try some good shakes I had the guy start to show me soy protein, until he realized I was looking for my husband. See, we'd want different proteins. As a woman, I'd want soy… but as a man needing to build muscle, he'd want wee (yes, he said "wee" as in whey).
Little miss muffet, sat on her tuffet, eating her curds and WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
The musclebound gooberhead at Vitamin Shoppe offered to take me in back of the store and show me how to properly make a protein shake-yeah right. My then 15 yr old was in the store with me and has never let me live that one down.
My vitamin shoppe has pretty cool people. They told me Acai weightloss is all hype (which i kinda knew) and not to buy it for that but its good for energy/immune system. I bought their BodyTech 24 Protein powder which they said was the same as some other brand name but less and they just point me to where supplements are and leave me alone. I'm the kind of customer who has a lot of questions though so I don't mind if they are bored and want to answer them for me...
i like the vitamin shoppe by my house, not too bro-tastic, pretty large and good selection. The GNC however is BRO-CENTRAL, teeny and the bro working the counter always hyping the latest NOxplode-xtreme-surge-to the maxx crapola flavor of the month. Dude, you'll get totally vascular! Evidently, I turn invisible at the GNC if I'm with my DH - is it magic or a heretofore unknown superpower? hmmm...
I still get some supplements at Mother's Market (local HF/natural food store) because to get some specific items online would take me to too many sites with separate shipping for each and then it isn't actually cheaper. But mostly I go with Vitacost, trueprotein and a couple of other places.
Yeah, I've got a spreadsheet of all my supps and where they are cheapest and then I just double-check the prices are still the same and still in stock and then just order from Supplement Warehouse and give them the URL and the price and they adjust it down 5%. Good deal.
