Smile Newby trying to get their head around it all !

Hi, I am going to start the NRoL4w on Monday and I have enjoyed reading the book, but it turns so much of my old training on its head. This is even more confusing as I am currently studying my Cert II and IV in PT ( Australia) and the information presented is so different to the course notes - very traditional course- so I am doing my head in a little. I am coming to this program having spent a considerable time doing Turbulence Training but I have lost my interest there so need a good rev up and think that this program will do that for me.

My biggest problem is going to be the nutrition side this always lets me down, so I need to focus. I train during my lunch hours which can be a downfall too as you rush. So the things that are the most difficult for my head to come to terms with - and correct if I'm wrong - is there no interval cardio during stage 1 ?; having done TT interval training is paramount. Secondly the shorter lifting stages I am so use to the trad 4 week turn around and then only a recovery every 12 weeks - my head is spinning. And speaking of spinning - Allwyn thanks now I know where my intervals have been going wrong - I'm an over achiever I constanly have to have a HR of over 160 bpm and I love breaking the 170 mark( I'm 48 so I know this is upwards the mark) when I cycle intervals or I don't feel lke I'm there. So the re-education for the intervals is really making my head hurt.

Well like so many others the proof will be in the pudding on Monday and the coming months.

Cheers

I do intervals regularly, so I kept them as part of my workouts during stage 1. Hope that helps.

Read the chapter again on "Extra Stuff to Do"; he goes into how you can add cardio if you feel you have to. I did cardio during my stage 1 on the off days (not all of them), and I switched it from the old steady state I had been doing, to intervals, and it really helped with fat loss. But I wouldn't do so much of it that it interferes with your lifting. You have to pick one goal.

Smile thank you

HI thanks for the great advice, I think that I will follow your advice and stick to the goal which is to work on the muscle development thatn add the cardio as per stage 2. Having a break from the cycling may not be all that bad as I think my body has got too use to the routine. Not to mention that it is winter at the momnet and the thought of going out to the garage to cycle after work isn't all that apealling.
