Default 1 point row/ woodchop question

In stage 2 for the one point db rows am i supposed to be doing 5 each side or 10? It read kind of like 5 per side but that doesnt sound like enough to me. Also I dont have a cable machine so I have been trying the horizontal wood chop as suggested on the floor with a barbell, however I dont feel like its doing anything. Where am I supposed to be feeling it? Ive tried to google and find a video to see if I am doing this right but no luck, any help would be appreciated thanks.

5 per side.

Woodchop video or pictures?

You might want to check out the FAQ stickied at the top of the forum for any questions, and there's a great search function on the forum, too, where you will find more woodchop threads.

Try doing the wood chops on the swiss ball -- you'll be able to rotate your torso more, so you'll probably feel like you're getting more out of the exercise.

I used a 25 lb plate when I do my woodchopper but I go diagonally - like shoulder to hip...

Whoops! I've been doing 10 reps per leg for the one-point row...I guess that helps explain why I'm so pooped when I finish those sets!!! I suppose I'll dial it back to 5 reps per side for my 4th time through this workout and just increase from the 20lb. dumbbells I was using...

Ohh and for the woodchop, I'm also doing 10 reps per side. Is this supposed to be 5/side as well?

Thanks!!

Jennine

The way you handle reps is explained in the exercise description in the book. I don't have it in front of me, but I believe for the 1-pt row, it says something like "do half on one leg then switch"... if I remember correctly, it even mentions what to do if you have an odd number of reps to do. The woodchops are per side.

The way I think about it is: what are you trying to do with the exercise? The 1-pt row is mostly for upper body, the balance is just to make it harder. You're working the upper body with every row. On woodchops, the sides are pretty independent, so you need the full number of reps on each side. Maybe this explanation only makes sense to me, though!

katherein, the woodchops on the Swiss ball sound like the Russian Upper-Body Twist move that I'm doing in NROL Fat Loss II.

Yeah, I think it is. (I have a copy of NROL but haven't started it 'cuz I'm still working through NROL4W).
In 4W it's listed as an "advanced option". I did the floor version of the ex. 1x, and switched to the ball when I realized that it was limiting the rotation of my shoulders -- I wasn't getting the range demonstrated in the book by the model with the cable apparatus, and I wasn't feeling like I was doing much work.
But yeah, I think it is the Russian Twist.

It was hard saving equipment to alternate exercises so I mostly did my woodchops on the floor with a medicine ball. Did the trick!
