I started the NROLFW program on Monday, June 1 and since then I've lost a couple pounds even though I've been following the number of calories recommended in the book (2100 on workout days, 1800 on rest days). Since I need to lose another 50 pounds, I was interested in finding out how many calories I really burn through in a day. In the GoWear Fit thread on the Fat Troubleshoot Section of the board, I noticed that ppl said that Polar HRM's (I have the women's F11) are consistently 25-30% over the real rate as tested by other devices. So yesterday I kept the F11 running for 24 hours, starting at the beginning of my workout (Stage 1, 3rd Workout A) and was really surprized at the results: 3702 calories x 0.7 = 2591 calories! Zamn! No wonder I've been losing weight! Also, I've been doing easy-peasy cardio on my rest days (treadmill, 1.5 incline, 2.5 mph, 40 minutes).
My stats:
40 years old
5'5"
216 pounds
Not sure how this figures into the equation exactly, but I have epilepsy and have been taking the anti-seizure med Depakote for the last 20 years. According to some articles I've read and my neurologist, Depakote makes you gain weight - can be up to 60 pounds. I started this program because before I had to take a break from the gym due to some medical issues, I had really plateaued at 210 (down from 260). So, it will be interesting to see if I'm able to get below that previous plateau easily. I was lifting pretty heavy before on a 5-day split with about 20-30 minutes of walking on the treadmill after but still the 1st workout on NROLFW kicked my butt. Hopefully the fat will come off as the muscle grows.
Sorry.....venture outside of the NROL4W forum and it's mentioned a lot. Explore! There's a ton of good info here at JP's...not just in this little microcosm.
I know that TTC forums often have a list of commonly used acronyms to facilitate the learning process for newbies.
If there isn't one already, could we start one and perhaps sticky it (or sticky the existing one)?
NROL forum is so chock full of acronyms that it scared the heck out of another friend I'd referred to the forum. It'd be nice to remove this barrier, or at least give people the pass code.
Honestly, my day job is so full on acronyms I'm a bit biased against them. Some of the acronyms are so long we just pronounce them as new words.
like TRIMSAFPA we pronounce (Trims-af-pa)
And then there's all the account numbers in my brain *head explodes*
Thank goodness for lifting. it's such a zen experience, it really quiets the mind. Better than meditation.
Wow, I have a heart rate monitor, and it says that for some of my workouts I burn 500-600 calories (some of the ones with BWM even said 900).
That said, I'm 5'4" 160 pounds, and I get my heart rate up there, averaging in the 130-140 range for the hour long workouts, with my max getting to 181 (usually deadlifts).. I have always thought my heart rate monitor overestimated, but I didn't think it was *that* much!

I typically run my Polar F11 Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) for 2 hours - begin when I get ready for the gym, end when I jump in the shower afterwards. It says I burn between 600-650 calories during the workouts, so if I take the average and multiply to account for the Polar HRM overestimating by 30%, that is 625 x .7 = 438 calories. Not bad!
so.... what *is* a TTC forum? Totally Take-Charge?
But awesome idea about the acronyms sticky, I had to do a lot of searching when I first found the board and the search engine isn't what i would call the super-greatest.
I typically burn about 150-200 calories during a lifting workout (30-45 minutes.) Today, NROL break-in, it was only 100 but I didnt' have time to even warm up on the bike for 5 minutes. A tough cardio w/o I burn about 400-500 (hour). I think my HRM is fairly accurate. I am 5'5" and 130lb.

Alright I have a new Polar F6 HRM. I mentioned to DH that I didn't really trust mine for calorie burn, so he said to get a new one, and he will use the old one since he doesn't care about the calories.
And.... drumroll. A 50 minute NROL (Fat Loss I, B3) burned 305 calories. So, yeah the other monitor was reporting almost twice the burn. Giving me a false sense of security over how much I was eating.

Totally Take Charge - perfect for a workout forum
I'm working on a list of acronyms as I see them pop up around here. Hopefully in a few weeks or months I'll have a substantial list and I'll post it. Hopefully people will chime in with whatever I missed too.
