I am starting the program tomorrow. I have weight to lose and muscle to gain...any advice? I am not new to the gym, but my tennies & work out gloves have some dust on them! Wish me luck! I am SUPER excited!

This reminds me of a question I've had: why dump the gloves? I have been wondering about getting some, to protect my palms from callouses. Not a good idea? How come? I have never used them, by the way.
My advice: Start slow and perfect form on everything you do before trying to add a bunch of weight. Learn from the others on this site; there are many good threads of information. And, the nutrition really matters. I had never really watched my diet (ratios), and I could never get rid of the extra fat layer, even with lifting, and even though I wasn't overweight. I have been tracking on this program, and I can already tell a difference!
Great link; thanks. I will nix the gloves idea. Now I know why I spend so much time at my computer: I start looking at something and then get sidetracked by all the other links. This site had great information on deadlifts as well. :-)
Lifting Gloves Make the Exercise Harder. The thicker the bar, the harder it is to grip it. If you ever trained with a fat bar, you know what I’m talking about. Gloves add thickness to the bar. This is especially hard on exercises where the weight is pulled downward out of your hands. Like the Deadlift.
But thick bar training will make your grip and forearms stronger. There is a trade off in using thick bars in that you won't be able to do as much weight as you can with the usual bars. But when you go back to regular bars (or take off the gloves) your grip will be able to handle more weight.
Screw the purists, if you want to use gloves, use them. Just understand there are differences in using or not using.

I am a girl, and will probably keep the gloves (But i do understand the concept of grip thank you)!!! My hubby lifts alot and heavy weight...and his hands are rough & calloused! I will keep my girly soft hands! Off to the gym now to begin...
Much Love & appreciation!

I also began the program today! I feel great, just don't know if I did the Prone Jackknife correctly! They were quit hard! Oh well, I look forward to Wednesday to do the 1B1.

I like my calluses. They serve as reminders of my lifting in my everyday life. Reminder to eat healthy, get to the gym, appreciate how far I've come.

I love that!! I wear gloves sporadically - I don't like that they take away my "feel" when lifting, but sometimes my hands hurt when doing deadlifts. I will now earn and display my calluses proudly, and look at my hands when I want that extra piece of cake
LGC814 & FRSTBRETZ...how was week 1? I am starting this coming Sunday so it looks like we all will be in sync. Let's stay in touch and see how everyone is doing. Did it "hurt so good"...hee-hee!
I'll have to check that thread out Flyingdogs! It can definitely prepare me for the painful journey I will be going on. Might as well cry now...hee-hee! And I feel your pain...I work 12 hour shifts so the thought of going to the gym on a work night makes me tired. I sit in a chair, type, talk on the phone, and stare at 4 screens for 12 hours...fun fun in the sun!!!
wonderwoman, you'll be planning your walking routes to avoid as many down stairs as possible. lol - damn, the first few days HURT! I had three steps down from my front door and I was taking those suckers one at a time, sideways. But after a couple days, you're only sore after a workout.
Wonderwoman, your job sounds like mine! I work in a Sleep Lab 3 nights a week. After a few weeks on the program, you will have no problems doing a workout between sleep and work. Stage 1 workouts are fairly short which is good.
