thanks! cant' wait to hear your progress esp. since you've been pretty fit in the past.

This is my second week so the Workout A routine was Wednesday. For the first time I did the jackknives at the gym so I could properly do the superset. Ohmigawd it was sooo much harder when you're alternating with the step-ups. BUT, I did them without falling off! Bonus! I did have to take my lifting gloves off for the second set because my hands were getting too sweaty. I was even able to move the ball almost to my knees - yay for progress!

More progress today as well (Workout B), I was able to not only do the full 15 reps for the Deadlifts (DL), but get deeper as well. I finally dialed in the right weight for the shoulder presses (freakin' barbie weights at only 5 lb) but I've had a few shoulder/rotor cuff injuries so I just gotta do what I can do. At least I refused to do it with the stoopit pink dumbbells and used the grody iron ones. Is it just me, or does anybody else hate these cuz everyone can see your "batwings" flapping around? Begone batwings, flyaway!

What do you mean by "deeper". This isn't an exercise where you go "deeper". You start on the floor and you end on the floor and there's no in beteen.

Hazeldazel, don't get me wrong....I have since gained quite a bit of weight since my "sexy" days...hahahahaha! But AWESOME to hear you told the ball who the boss was...WHOOHOO!! And the shoulder press?!?!?! Those are PAINFUL and exhausting! I can't do them with heavy weights either, but just think, in 6 months, you'll be slugging 30pound weights overhead, making the boys cry in the gym! Go GET 'EM!!!

yeah, it's just frustrating cuz I originally joined the gym August 8, 2007 and I've been going faithfully 5-6 days a week doing about 30 minutes lifting followed by 30 minutes of cardio. My left shoulder I wasn't able to do any training for a long time because I strained it really bad and my right knee has been problematic since I was a kid, but GEEZ! I was thinking they'd be stronger by now! I did 8 pound shoulder presses last week and afterwards I had to ice my shoulder because it was feeling warm/irritated. Bah, it's sooooo great hoisting these teeeeeny weights in the free weight room with all the dudes there. Not.

Oh well, the cool thing is I can already tell I'm getting stonger. Onwards and upwards!

We can do it!

Are both the videos posted here correct ways of doing the jackknife? The one with Natalia looks FREAKING hard. I've tried them twice now, 2 sets of 8 reps each time, and the first was so hard I walked around clutching at my abs all day long Felt good though.

Yes, they are both correct. The pike version being the more advanced version.

yeah, the jacknives will totally have you hunched over like an old woman clutching your abs the next day. The swiss ball crunches that are part of workout B are like having the day off in comparison.

If you keep falling off, just start with the ball higher up on your legs until your abs get stronger.

Default Barefoot Jacknife

I know this is an old thread but a warning. The first time I tried this I was barefoot, and the ball went out from under me, sending my foot directly into my hardwood floor at a 90 degree angle, and splitting my toenail in half. Bleeding and all. OUCH. After that I learned the old never exercise barefoot except during yoga rule.
