I am about to finish stage 4 (NROL4W). I did not begin this program to lose weight. I lost some weight last year and decided to do the NROL4W to gain strength and be fit. I am eating the recommended calories and making sure that I have enough protein...etc
I have maintained my weight give or take a pound, it goes back and forth. THIS IS MY PROBLEM......I tend to lose weight around my chest and upper body. I have dropped a bra size ( and can't afford to loose any more!) When I breathe in you can pretty much see every rib....BUT my lower half is much bigger. I still have cellulite on my thighs and saddlebags so I don't want to gain any weight. I am within healthy limits for my age and height although on the low end.
Just wondering if there is anything I can do???
You can't choose where the fat comes off, unfortunately.
Think of your fat as a big snowdrift. When that snowdrift begins to melt, where does it go away first? Where there's less of it. It takes a LOOONG time to get those huge mounds of snow to melt all the way down. The edges melt away first.
So, where do you hold most of your fat? That's probably the last to leave. And, before you get there, you are going to lose incrementally everywhere else, as well.
Wow great analogy with the snowdrift. I will have to remember that.
I don't have any suggestions, just commiseration. I have lost the most fat in my legs and hips on the program, while keeping it more in my upper body (belly and arms). Normally its the reverse but I have noticed that while breastfeeding (as I am now) I tend to keep more fat on my upper body.
I agree; think it depends on the person. I'm similar to you in that I hold my weight in the lower areas and that's where it stays. When I lose weight it comes straight from my chest first as well. So it's not that you're doing anything in particular to make it happen, that's just how it works for you. So don't worry too much about it, I guess it comes with the territory...win some, lose some right.
Well, thanks for the comments! I appreciate the input.
I guess I need to be content with my disproportion body. Hopefully when I am done with NROL4W there will be some improvement. :-)
Don't worry, just wait a few years, and if you're like many women, your lower body fat will pack its bags one day and move en masse to your belly! Be careful what you wish for

...that so beautiful, Jane.
To the OP: Building up your upper bod can do the trick. I foresee lots of wide-grip pull ups, military presses, and bench presses in your future
I tend to slim down from the top down--first my face, then boobs, then waist, and butt, hips and thighs last, which is where it needs to come off the most. Stick with it and you might catch up!

So true! I used to like my thighs least of all my body parts (although over all I am happy with the body I have). Now, three babies later I never think about my thighs anymore and my belly is my despair!
Incidentally, my chest took a severe hit after years of breastfeeding. I practically went down a bra size after I was done (and this after having been up 3 sizes while I was in the midst of breastfeeding). Although I didn't start NROL4W expecting anything to change with my chest, the buildup of those chest muscles (pects?) has radically improved how I fill out my shirts. My husband commented on it first - I can't even see the sag that was so prominent after I was done breastfeeding! So, stick with it and maybe your chest will improve as well!
