Default just had a baby

I have a question for everyone:
I had a baby 2 1/2 months ago and am currently breastfeeding. Is the program safe for me and is the diet plan and 2,000 calories a day ok for me as a breastfeeding mom?

I would suggest using the formulas in the book to determine your recommended calorie intake and then adding on the recommended additional calories women are supposed to consume while breastfeeding. You may need to check with your doctor but I think it's around 500 cals/day. I imagine your total will be over 2000.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the info! What if I'm trying to lose weight though, while breastfeeding and doing the program. I have to cut out some calories then right? How many should I be consuming then if my maintenance is 2,000 but I'm breastfeeding and want to lose weight?

The book suggests a deficit of around 300 cals, I believe, if you want to lose weight. Consider your maintenance level 2000 + a few hundred to account for breastfeeding. Then subtract the 300. The two factors probably just about cancel each other out, so perhaps just try the maitenance level in the book and see how that goes.

I would recommend trying the maintenance level and seeing how you feel. Also, focusing on eating foods high in protein and fiber when you are hungry will help keep your calories down even while satisfying the hunger. When I was breastfeeding I was RAVENOUS and ate large meals every few hours. As long as I didn't get lazy and eat ice cream or oreos for those meals, I lost weight steadily.

I find these programs increase my hunger and I try and focus on using filling and nutritious foods when I feel that way. I don't know how it affects my weight loss (that wasn't my main goal in the program), but it makes me feel better and gives me more energy.

Good luck!

Default Thanks for the info

Thanks for all the info everyone, I'll probably do 2,000 calories for non workout days and like 2,200 on workout days and see how that goes for a couple of weeks. Let you know how it works out!
