Default ? re: Anaerobic exercise

I do cardio and weight training on alternate days. I think that many times my entire cardio workout is aerobic or mostly so. But about once a week, when the music is right, I'm feeling especially energetic, and my heart rate gets way up there, I get sore muscles, just like the last few reps of a lifting set. If I'm understanding what I've been reading lately, that means my workout has gotten anaerobic. Is that correct?

Now, given that weight training is anaerobic, and sometimes the cardio is anaerobic, does that mean that at those times, when my muscles are sore in a cardio workout that I'm building muscles? Or is it just lactic acid? Isn't it lactic acid that makes the muscles sore during lifting too?

The soreness is due to the lactic acid, not "building muscles."
You don't build muscle during a workout, you tear them apart. You build them when you rest.

I understand that the muscle builds when you rest. But the anaerobic part of my cardio workout, it feels the same, sometimes even the next day soreness. So you'd wonder if the same thing is happening.

Yes. As in, you're building up lactic acid in your muscles.

Is there a post missing between Aoife's last two posts? I'm confused.

Yes, I said something snippy, had second thoughts, was deleting, but apparently too late. My fault.

In another thread someone posted photos of a sprinter in comparison to a marathoner.

The sprinter had very developed thigh muscles. The marathoner was almost emaciated.

I suppose the marathoner works better that way...less bulk means less energy to move him steadily for hours.

But the sprinter....does she lift weights to get those muscles so she can sprint? Or doses she have those musclesas a result of sprinting? A combination?

I'm sure the sprinter lifts weights. The legs drive the run, so they need to power.

Then you train the running aspect to refine the raw power.
