Default Early Morning workouts... What to eat?

Since my baby is sick AGAIN (Third time since Sept 1st) from being at the gym daycare, I've now decided to avoid putting him in the daycare which means I'll be getting up early to hit the gym in the AM before the family is up. Not really happy about that but I'm committed to the program.

So... What would you suggest I eat before hitting the gym? I'm assuming I should eat something before going... Maybe a protein shake? But then would I have another after I work out? Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks in advance!

I've been drinking half my protein shake before a workout, then the other half afterwards. Maybe that'd work for you?

I've always liked a banana in the morning for quick energy and it's not too filling. Fruit in general. The protein shake's a good idea too. Mine always has a banana in it :-)

Thanks so much for the replies! I like the idea of half the protein shake and I like bananas so usually have them around. Thanks!

I drink a specially formulated protein shake pre-WO (I work out at 5:45 every morning) It has a bit of caffeine for a nice boost, and gives me a really good pump throughout my workout. Then I have a custom mixed post-WO that I built for immediately after! (I supplement this with a slow-digesting protein about a half hour later since my custom mix only has about 10% of a quick digesting protein and the rest is carbohydrate)
