Default Gaining weight. Not happy

Okay, this is my first week. I lifted Sun, Tues, and Thurs with 10 min on treadmill to warmup.
I weigh 150 lbs and am 5'5.
Before starting NROLFW, I was eating 1300-1400 cal per day and not exercising. But I had been losing 1.5 lbs per week for 3 months.
Now this week, I upped my calories to 1500 on non lifting days and 1700 for lifting days. And I'm GAINING!
I'm up a couple of pounds and my clothes are tighter, too. And it's not a hormonal time that could influence that. And I haven't had any extra sodium. I really watch it.
I'm about to give up. Any advice?

I highly doubt you could gain that quickly after only one week - perhaps you're experiencing swelling / water retention from the lifting and sore muscles?

Otherwise, if you only added 200-400 calories/day AND increased activity, that wouldn't explain a big gain - are you actually measuring/weighing everything you eat?

Honestly, I wouldn't change anything after only one week. BUT, many of us (not all, but many) found that NROLW's calorie levels weren't designed for losing weight. And others found that the workouts were too intense to do and still eat at a big deficit... read the boards a bit - there are other post about this, I'm sure. Also check out the fat loss troubleshoot section here...

I'm eating the exact same things I was before. I only added protein (whey).

It's only been a week? So, the scale says 2 lbs. Did you eat 7,000 extra calories? Don't be so hung up on the scale....give it some time. If you aren't used to lifting, you are probably just experiencing some water retention.

I'm with Jane. If you're sure you aren't picking extra calories here and there it's not true weight gain. Even after all this time there are days after I lift that I'm still up a pound or two.

Im with them too. You probably need to boost ur metabolism, a slight gain may occur, but it will stabilize. Hang in there. Same thing happened to me. Dont give up

I'd give it another week or two. Worst case, you've given yourself a (likely) needed diet break. Best case, you'll start to lose after things mellow out. No lifting to lifting is bound to cause a little water weight.

The math says you can't have gained two pounds of fat or muscle, so it's water. Keep in mind that 1.5lbs a week means 750 calories of deficit. Even on lifting days, you were still at least 350 cals in a deficit, so you can't have gained anything real.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond. I have 2 day rest before I lift again on Sunday. So I'll give it another week or so.

Thanks, again.
