Default AMRAP? Optional?

Hey guys,
Question for you. My baby is sick this week and it was the week I was supposed to do AMRAP. Is it optional? Can I rest this week to care for my baby and move on to Stage 2 next week?

The other option is to lift in my garage and rest next week, but with her sick, it works out well if my rest week is this week.
Let me know!
Thanks

Yes - i think you should take this week off and take care of baby. I believe it is recommended in the book to take time off. He even states that he takes time when on vacation and not really when he ends a specific phase. You could take this week off and then do the amrap the next week! Hope baby feels better soon!

Absolutely take the week off and care for your baby. If you search through the logs, you'll find that a lot of us skipped the AMRAP. If I recall correctly, AMRAP is really designed to show you just how far you've come in the last month or however long it took you to finish stage 1, as well as illustrate the point Lou makes in the book about women under estimating their strength when they start a program like this.

Thanks, that is great! This week I will then focus on my diet, clean it up and watch my portions.

I had 4 options since I wanted the timing to be right for a rest week after stage 2 instead of after stage 1 for my vacation on Nov 16 :
  1. do the amrap special workouts
  2. skip them and go to stage 2 (leaving me in the middle of stg3 for vacation)
  3. do one more workout of 8 reps stage 1
  4. do one more workout of 6 reps stage 1
I opted for the 1st - because I figured if Mr Cosgrove put it in there, it must be ok.....
SOOOO - I was shocked last night. I thought it would take forever to do since I had gotten sooo much stronger!! HA - it didn't take long at all and I was surprised I couldn't do more. I practically doubled my weight on every exercise in stage one since the begining so I thougt I'd do a ton of reps. Not so!
  • Squats - 30reps
  • Pushups - 30 degree -24
  • Seated row - 30
  • step ups - on stool - like originally done - 35
  • prone jackknife - 23
Seems like I did more reps on the weighted ones as opposed to the body weight ones. Also - after the 60 second rest period, I was still not fully recovered as in the other workouts I did. I was definitely huffing alot more for this one.
Anyway - if you are considering skipping the specials, I would recommend not. It was a good workout and got me sweating!
