Default Losing Weight BUT NOT Fat %

Hi Everyone...I'm newer to NRoL4W (Stage 2). Absolutely loving it! Eating so clean I squeak and doing lots of great interval training, either outside or treadmill (always have done cardio and been active previously to starting NR).

Why for the past two weeks, I seem to drop 1/2 pound every day but not a single fat percentage? I'm looking more toned, losing inches everywhere, but not decreasing in the percentage department.

I am eating by the book-including my recovery shakes, protein powder in my yogurt, etc...-been a very good girl, except for that occasional cup of light ice cream.

Thanks for any help you can give.

(oh, p.s....I own a tanita and I'm 40)

What is the method you are using to check bf %? The electronic hand held ones or the scales can vary alot. Be sure that you do it at the same time every day too. You could be losing bf but it might not be showing up yet. Fluid retention or dehydration can also counteract them. I have one but don't use it any more. But it never gave me the same answer twice! As long as you are feeling and looking leaner you are on the right track!. Just don't drop the weight too fast!

dropping 1/2 pound a day? That would be like 3 lbs loss in a week which is not normal.

Depends on what your starting weight is. And whether or not that's all fat or it's fat and water.

Guidelines say that it's healthy to lose 1% of your body fat per week. If someone is starting out in the high 200s or even the 300s, then 3lb a week is perfectly "normal" and acceptable.

Also if someone has just started eating clean, it's entirely possible that they're losing 2lb of fat and another 1lb of water weight from dropping sodium, sugar, or other chemical intake.

It's also entirely possible that the first bit of weight loss is ALL water (or mostly water) and not enough fat loss to register yet. It will come, if you give it enough time.

Will have to google tanita. My dictionary goes from tangy to tank. No tanita.

Tanita is just a brand. Google bioimpedence instead.

Does your tanita show body water percentage as well? If your hydration levels are different, your bf will be unreliable. I only count my bf as accurate if my body water % is within a certain .5% range (52.5-53%). Then I can tell the true changes. For example, this am my bf read 28%, but I was a little dehydrated (51%). tonight just for kicks I tried it out, and I'm at 53.4% water and 23.5% bf. Make sense?

I would not base any conclusions on 1 weeks worth of data. Give it 4 especially with a bioimpedence thing. Those devices are great for general trending but are not so hot when doing measurements in short times.

The problem with bioimpedence scales is that your hydration level influences them. If you are not properly hydrated they cannot get a correct reading.

I started at 213lbs and when I first started eating clean I lost 5lbs a week for the first 3 weeks. After that it was a consistent 2lbs a week pretty much. So yah, can't judge things in just the first week and your starting weight matters for sure. The more you have to lose generally the faster and easier it comes off INITIALLY.

I would trust the tape measure and those $10 plastic calipers by ACC-UMEASURE and my eyes more than I would the scale.
