Default Step up Cable Machine

I am getting to the point where I can no longer comfortably hold the dumbbells I need for my step-ups, and logistically I can't use a barbell.

My gym has a cable machine for step ups. Have any of you used this, and if so, what are you thoughts? I don't think it feels the same.

Is it more important to develop the grip strength to hold the dumbbells or to move up to a higher weight my legs can handle?

I think you are referring to the Free Motion Step Up unit. I have used it and I like it. With the proper adjustments (height & distance), your step up should be fine.

Thanks, John. That is the exact model I was referring to. I tried using it today, and I didn't like the feel of the weights at all. I ended up bringing the dumbbells over to it so I could still use the step part.

I guess I'll have to learn how to hold those heavy dumbbells after all!!
