Hi all, I came here by way of someone suggesting you could help me decide what to do.
I entered a challenge on Men's Health to get in better shape, blah blah for 12 weeks. someone mentioned NROL4W. so, I find that some say the calculations are difficult.. some say.. it's good. i want to know, why is this book different then another workout book i.e. Men's Health Home Workout Bible? I want to get the most knowledge I can and not waist time doing something that is more specific to men even though we have the same muscles.. Why is NROL4W so good?
NROL4W introduces women to the concept that muscles are GOOD and lifting heavy is GOOD for us. It busts through common myths that women have long subscribed to (ie lifting will make you bulky). There is also a fairly detailed nutrition section in NROL4W so that you know that you CAN eat and SHOULD eat to fuel your workouts.
What are your goals? If you are looking for fat loss, any workout program will work as long as your diet is in check, as that's the biggest part of that equation. Are you looking to get strong, build muscle? You need to figure out what your goals are and pick the program that works best to meet those goals.
Home workout bible gives you options of exercises you can do at home with no equipment, very little equipment, a bit more, a decent amount, a fully decked out gym.
NR4W is a planned workout of 7 stages meant to last about 6 months and many of which you'd have trouble doing at home without a pretty decent home gym.
If you're perfectly comfortable with the idea of heading into the free weight area of the gym, stepping into the cage, and squatting/deadlifting your little heart out, then what you'll get from NR4W is a good workout and some entertaining reading from Lou.
If you're cardio queen... sure, pick it up and learn how to do something different and what can be very empowering.
If you're unsure, stop by the bookstore and take a look. Peek at the workouts, read some of the "rules" and make a nice, informed decision based on your own perception and prior experience.
I've had one person for whom the book would be preaching to the choir who wondered if she should bother. I asked her if she was looking for a new workout. She said no. I told her not to bother until she was.
I really want fat loss. I'm short at 5'2" and all my fat that i get,, goes straight to the middle and sits there. I don't mind lifting. I have my dumbells, and my Barbie bells.. lol.. and I have 8pd med ball, a hula hoop, mat, stability ball, and I still haven't found my niche. I've tried videos but some are too fast for me. some are too darn slow and etc. you get my drift. I have a bar bell and weights. I just want a program that I can stick with, understand when to change and why I'm changing, i.e. weights.. When to lift fast, when to lift slow, blah blaah... pyrimid, gym style. just what the heck do I DO!!! lol.. I'm okay. I will keep reading... but you see my frustration on information...

*shrug*
lol I get ya. I think you helped a lot. .. I think since one of the authors wrote this book also,.. it must still be pretty good. unless he changed his ideas on lifting.
I don't plan on visiting a gym. I want and prefer a home grown body. my conveinent? for me. less money and I'm happy here. I know it can be done.
OK, since fat loss is your main goal, then your DIET should be the first thing you get under control.
hi MissJane. yes, i agree on the diet. I did purchase fitday the hard copy and I've just been doing it as of late. I like it very much. I know I better get this part together and I'm working on it. I like in putting my food each meal, I should have stuck with the online version but this way, i can reaload if anything happens. Only thing, down side of home version is I have to write out what I eat when I'm at work and wait to get home to put in my food.
so, I do know where I should be calorie wise and I'm taking steps doing the 5 meals.
I read more lables, understand not do HFCS and other stuff. I got that from The Abs Diet Book.

For home, you will want a nice collection of dumbbells -- probably from 5 lbs up to at least 20 lbs. You will also need a barbell (go with the 45 lb oly bar) and a squat rack would be good to get, as well. Also, a weight bench. (That's for NROL4W and probably most other weight training programs).

Baby, 'm good to go. I have all that. Except the squat rack. i have my barbell with the plates that go up to 100 pounds. I have 2,3,8,10,12,18 etc dumbells. I have the power blocks also. I have a club step and a regular bench that inclines and declines.
I will say that if you're just looking to hop on board a program, NR4W would be a good one. Great variety and uniqueness and good workouts. No sitting there and trying to decide what to do next and whatnot. You'd prolly have to modify a few things if you don't have cable machine, but get yourself some bands and you'd be good.
Why give up on something you want? You'll find there are a lot of us on here who used to be 200+ or 300+ and lost the weight. Or are working on losing it and aren't giving up. You might check out the Livin' Large forum if you haven't already.

I didn't not mean it in a bad way I was just saying, It's good that you didn't. It can be discouraging when we don't see the weight go when we expect it. Just speaking for myself. I'm glad to here and be amongst people that are really sticking, like glue. I need that motivation.
