Default Dumbbell option for wide-grip deadlift? (Stage 2)

Hello everyone,

I just finished stage 1 (and lost 5 lbs and 2 notches on my belt in the process, hooray!). I am working out at home with dumbbells and so far have been able to adapt everything just fine. In stage 2, everything looks doable with dumbbells except the wide-grip deadlift. Is there any way to adapt this to dumbbells or will I be stuck just continuing with the regular deadlift? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

(Note: I am not buying a barbell because (1) my house is very small with not much storage room and (2) in about 3 weeks I will move 1,500 miles in a Honda Civic and there won't be room to take it with me).

I would say just do what you did for dead lifts in Stage 1 but use a box to increase your range of motion.

Congrats on your success!

I don't have any solid ideas for stage 2, but you'll probably want to either invest in a barbell & plates soon (maybe after the move) or plan to make trips to the Y or some other fitness place. Stage 4 is the same as stage 2, so you'll want to make sure you can do these with heavier weights. The heavier you go, the more your hands/arms are going to want to gravitate toward the center, removing the "wide grip" part of the exercise.

Just thinking ahead!

i have the same exact question as the original poster. i use the gym my work offers - which actually has quite a few machines and plenty of dumbbells/free weights. PROBLEM --> no barbell which means no wide grip deadlift :-(

does anybody else have any suggestions?

Wednesday is my first day of Stage 2, Workout B -- as of right now I plan to just use dumbbells adn do the standard deadlift just like in Stage 1.

Thanks
MD

at least do the DL off the box to increase the range of motion -

Isn't it hard to do a CDL without a bar? Doesn't become more of an RDL? I'm trying to picture a CDL with DB's??
