Wow! Is that what you got out of the article? Maybe if you printed it it would be easier for you to read?

You're just cranky because you're (roughly) vegan. Go eat some chicken.
(Jess & I know each other from another board; I got her turned onto NROL4W. That's right, she can thank me for her sexy bod this summer.)
I can't seem to get to the fitnessrx site, unfortunately. Maybe their server's just down. I'd love to read the original article!

HEY LADY! I'm eating eggs. That should be enough!
Actually, Skinny Bitch didn't impress me. It just has that shock value thing for those who are oblivious to factory farming.

That's magenta. Some are blue, but I understand Jess's shock. Such high contrast is both hard on the eyes and the attention for long periods of time.

Isn't black on white roughly the same contrast as white on black?
A lot of people with computer monitor related eye problems are told to switch to light text on a dark background.

Can we really assume that going vegan is enough to make anyone skinny? I had a friend who was vegan. She said she lost 50lbs right off the bat, and then gained it all back (presumably as fat, where did all the muscle go?).
Vegan doesn't mean immune to junk food. Soy pudding, soy ice cream, soy mayonnaise...

I lost a fair bit of weight on a low fat vegetarian diet (not vegan). However, the one thing I noticed is that far too many vegetarian recipes start with a lot of oil. And boy, soy nuts were not my friend. Even now I eat them, but pre-measure them so I'm only grabbing an ounce when I take some.
I'm convinced you can gain (or lose) on pretty much any combination of food. I know after the film "Super Size Me" there were at least two other people who did the McD's route and proved you could lose weight only eating there.

As a vegan myself, I don't believe that veganism has any more inherent power to make you thin than any other way of eating. If you are going from eating tons of junk and fast food to a healthy, vegan diet, you're going to lose weight. But you'd probably also lose weight going on an omnivorous diet that was based around whole, healthy foods.
I kind of resent Skinny Bitch because it turns a lot of impressionable women onto veganism for the wrong reasons, as well as promotes a bad image of veganism. While abstaining from animal products could be one path towards a healthier lifestyle, veganism is first and foremost a matter of personal ethics in which one believes it is wrong to harm or consume animals. While a lot of people who read Skinny Bitch might find some of the factory farming/animal rights stuff interesting, I have a feeling the real reason they are eating vegan is simply to lose weight. But there is a lot more to veganism than just what one eats.
Plus, I wouldn't even call all of the food recommended in that book healthy. From skimming through it, I noticed there was a fairly heavy reliance on faux meat products, none of which are really that great for you. Sure, veggie bacon might have less calories than pork bacon, but you're also getting a lot of artificial junk.
Bottom line, I've been vegan for years and have still, at times, been unhappy with my weight. Its about the calories, and just because I might not be able to go to a traditional ice cream parlor or burger joint doesn't mean I can't gorge on high calorie, unhealthy food.

No there isn't. Vegetarian or vegan is simply a matter of what you put into your body, based on it's relation to being an animal product.
For many people, being those things is also part of a lifestyle that may also be very eco-conscious, animal rights oriented, holistic, religious, et cetera.
But just because for you vegan is part of something more doesn't mean it has to be for everyone. People are allowed to go to yoga classes simply to gain flexibility.

Actually, there IS more to veganism than diet. Veganism includes what you buy, what you wear, what you wash your clothes with, whether your shampoo was tested on animals, etc. No leather shoes, no wool sweaters, no makeup with animal products (or, for many, tested on animals) etc. Yoga has nothing to do with it. Not sure where you got that.
If it's only dietary, you're either strict vegetarian (no animal products in the diet but some in lifestyle like clothing), or you're lacto and/or ovo.

I'm about to go all technical writer geeky on y'all.
PM
It's not the same at all due to how we perceive objects on the screen. There's a property called figure ground observation (that came out of Gestalt Psychology) in which which the viewer assigns edges to regions for purposes of shape determination, determination of depth across an edge, and the allocation of visual attention. Light Text on a black background is actually easier on the eyes than white on black because of there's more contrast between the background and the letter. If there's not enough contrast, the eye has a difficult time seeing it.
For Example:
I bet you have a hard time seeing this text
The text above is logical, but the eye can't see it to comprehend it because it can't easily distinguish between the light blue background and the white text. However there's enough contrast that you can read black text just fine.
Probably one of the best examples for Figure Ground is the image below:
Because of how the image is drawn, the brain either intreprets it as two people talking OR as a cup with a very ornate base.
