Default Anyone do boxing for HIIT?

I am looking into boxing and wondered if anyone out there was doing this too for your HIIT sessions?? It seems we have a lot of martial arts people here, but haven't heard boxing yet. Either that or I have not been reading the discussions that include them. I will also do a search to find info....but wanted to ask if any women were doing this?

If you do it, do you know any good programs to learn the proper techniques first?

It's something I figure I can do for free in our garage at home, AND do with DH since he likes it too....What equipment would we have to buy? We have focus gloves and a heavy bag (not one that hangs from the chain though, just a sand weighted upright one to punch at)

Any advice?

I've no idea but want to sub to this thread so I don't miss any answers. I'd love to take up boxing or kickboxing or both!

I have a boxing routine that I use for HIIT from time to time. I can't remember where we got it, but I know it was online. All you need for it is a heavy bag (I have the swinging kind) and a jump rope.

Basically, you warm up with the jump rope, and then alternate rounds of different combo punches with rest, then finish with jump roping. It is a fun, fast workout that can be as intense as you want it to be and could be added to or changed to be more challenging. I think that the site it was on also had basic technique instruction as well. Chris found it thru google.

I wouldn't recommend doing it instead of running, but it's a fun thing to throw in for variety. I love it because it helps me feel strong. The workout is taped to my wall downstairs, but if you'd like it, let me know here and I'll post the whole thing.

Thanks and Yes, Mel I would love a copy!!!

I am going to see what responses I get from this, but may watch the video instruction or let DH teach me what he has learned. I will try it this week, and let you all know what I did and what I thought of it? I like the idea of girls punching and kickboxing too!!! Sounds tough and fun! Let out some stress!!!! LOL!

I don't think I will sub it for running, etc....I love doing that stuff too, just get bored doing the same things and from what I hear, you can get a killer cardio workout from this too?? Just excited to try/learn something brand new!
