Squishy Fat, WHOOSH Fairy?
I am hoping someone with this secret knowledge will enlighten me more. I now have SQUISHY FAT. I am not liking it too well. It makes me feel FATTER.
I heard that this was a good thing tho and had a friend say my fat cells were filled with water now getting ready to release it. I was like WOW I never heard that. So being the googling girl I am, I googled it.
I found out about the whoosh fairy LOL!
Evidently the theory is (smart people step in now), your fat cells don't like to give it up to easily and retain water after releasing the fat. That makes you squishy and then suddenly you have a major drop in scale weight. I also read that sometimes you can remain squishy for MONTHS with no change, then SUDDENLY! WHOOSH!
I don't know about you, but I need all the motivation and HOPE I can get! I am squishy and blobby and I have cut lines from my clothes. EEWWWW! Please visit me whoosh fairy!
I was specifically thinking of Leah regarding this!

I can kind of relate to the annoying parts to this sequence but unfortunately have not yet seen the whoosh. By annoying part, I mean that I find myself feeling extremely bloated in the lower body after workouts on NROL4W. It's to the point where pants are barely fitting me, and it's particularly bad right after workouts so I hope this is water-related. However, I question the part about low intensity walking only bc I do a ton of this (I live in NYC and walk to/from work every day so between 1 and 2 hours every single day) in addition to w/o's, and yet I still gained weight earlier this year (wt gain post-weaning so maybe not a good scenario for analysis).
Anyway, I will welcome a woosh!

FWIW, links to other forums are fine, especially if they lead to reputable sources. Personally, I like most of Lyle's stuff (he got me through keto a couple times), though some of his latest blog posts have me scratching my head. Better to cite sources, if for no other reason than to show where questions might come from and avoid this:

You are funny!
Along these same lines, I was told that if you are experiencing swelling (step in again, smart people and correct me, if this is wrong) after a workout that it means that blood is rushing to that area and that is a good thing.
Again, I don't know if this is true but I do get the swelling right after (especially on leg day) and then the next day I feel like the muscles look harder and stronger, but it could all be in my head.

Minor swelling is to be expected--you hear meatheads talk about "gettin' swole up" and such That's just the microtrauma in your muscle inducing an inflammatory response, meaning more fluids in the tissue. It'll subside, so don't worry that you might be bulking up or anything, at least not right away.

My friend on another board calls this Jello Fat. She hasn't said anything about the Woosh Fairy, but she says that it's a sign that you are dumping fat and your body is changing.

MuscleMom--Thanks for posting this. I too have clothing lines and squishy fat; it is disgusting. I will be wishing for the Woosh Fairy to come visit in the next couple of months. Good luck!

Wow, I hadn't heard of that, but it makes sense. That's pretty interesting stuff. I wonder how you can speed up the swoosh phase? Anyway, good luck to you. It sounds like you've done a lot of hard work. Now you just have to wate for your body to catch up. Keep up the good work and let us know when the swoosh happens!

Ahahah WOW. I have been noticing this in myself lately too and had no idea what was going on. I felt like I was getting flabbier. So this is a good thing, or will lead to a good thing?

NROLW does mention swelling caused by water. It's somewhere in the diet section. IIRC, if your clothes are tighter but your scale hasn't gone up, that's likely water. But if your clothes are looser without any change in your weight, that's muscle!

With results like these, clothing looking lots worse and new "cut" lines, I would just throw in the towel before! In fact I did thinking something wa seriously wrong a couple of years ago.
Oooo that I would have had this info. It gives me hope!
I mean my undies look like I have gained 10 lbs! And I have lost 10! TMI LOL!

I need the whoosh fairy bad. I have actually gained weight and feel very squishy in the lower body. But I can visibly see that my upper body is getting cut. It makes me nervous but I am going to cling to the hope that I couldn't be getting cut up top if this wasn't working. And I feel great, just hope the lower body follows soon!

This is my experience too. I am more cut in upper body and have lost 3/4 inch in my waist. Even have a 4-pack LOL but thighs feel puffy and my pants might fit everywhere but feel tight in the thighs.

This has been my experience as well. My shoulders and upper back have become very defined, and I'm sporting some nice little bicep and tricep muscles as well. And while I can feel the muscles in my thighs, I generally still feel pretty "squishy" from the belly button down.
