Funny thing happened while I was doing my DB Snatches. A 40-something male (around my height and 200lbs in weight) comes up to me (good thing he did it during my rest period) and asks a few questions about the exercise. I explain really quickly, for I am counting my rest seconds. He picks up my 45lb DB and tries to hoist it up over his head using his back and shoulder muscles. )) I told him he had to use his butt and legs + momentum. He tried one more time (2 reps all in all), put the DB down, said 'interesting exercise', and walked away...

LOL! Gotta luv the guys when they can't admit they don't know something.
Cool pic, btw...new isn't it?

I love those snatches. But the BB version looks incredibly difficult! Balance is my biggest problem by far--I think the bb would do me in.
I'm with the person upthread who said that 3A is their favorite workout. Mine too. I'm having some fun with the squat-push-presses in 4A but it's not the same as the snatches followed by the 1 arm OH squats. Way to make a spectacle in the gym.
I stand by my original claim that one of the intentions of the NROLW exercises is to compel women to rightfully take up lots of space and make a spectacle of themselves with badass exercises on the 'boy's side' of the gym. I love it.

YES!!! So true. It is a male dominated area for sure.
But I rarely see the guys doing any squats, deads, etc. Mainly just working the shoulders, chest, and abs. Or as my former trainer used to say, the "club muscles" for those guys who go to the dance clubs and take off their shirts

Are you sure you don't mean "club exercises" as in, if you only do these exercises, we'll rip off your own arm and club you to death with it for being a fool?
I hardly ever see men doing ANY kind of lower body work. There's a guy who occasionally comes in to do squats and deads, but I think he's a powerlifter. And there's another guy I saw doing a bodyweight matrix type thing. Silly men.

There's a guy at my gym (I secretly call him 'princess'). He's completely pumped beyond words (like HYOOOOOOGE) and fake-tanned to death. He has longish wavy hair that has the most lovely carefully weaved-in highlights . He parks himself in front of the mirror at the smith machine and does shoulder presses. In between sets, he stares at himself in the mirror and just admires himself -- preening in every sense of the word. It's quite hysterical.

Funny thing is, when I invade their space, I am left all alone there shortly after...go figure.

I can't wait to finish Stage 1 and try all the fun stuff!
The "men" (using the term loosely) where I work out either do bench press with horrible form, or they get on the Hammer leg press and let it slam back after every rep so the plates rattle loudly. Then they lift too-heavy DB's and after their set, they slam them hard into the ground so everyone jumps and looks. I think if you can lift it, you can put it down nicely too, ya know? But I guess idiots think loud = impressive??? (of course I grunt pretty good when I'm squatting!).

Which brings up a question I've been recently pondering:
How bad are beans in this carb-fearing world? I mean veggies are good. Fruits are okay. Bread, pasta, rice, etc are the bad boys, and the fully white version of those are just plain evil. Where do beans fall in the spectrum? Beans are my (healthy?) friends and I don't care to completely shun them.
I'm gonna go c&p this down in the nutrition area....

Beans are a wonderul wonderful food. So full of nutrients and fiber. Plus decent amounts of protein. I am so tired of the carb phobia that has made people question eating things like beans, fruit, etc. (and Nutbar this is not directed at you...just a pet peeve of mine)

No prob. I needed to get a bit of carb phobia going on before I started in here. I used to live on veggies and beans -- healthy, yes, but not at the expense of protein and fats like I was. I love veggies! Now, I'm just trying to educate myself on the details of nutrition and find a balance that works for me. (In my next life, I'm gonna come back as a rabbit so I can just live on salads!)

In my own mind I have a hierarchy for the healthiness of carbs:
veggies
fruit
beans
whole grains
then all the rest
